NEW KENTUCKY SCHOOL BUS SAFETY LAW

As students head back to school, we need to give all our drivers a heads-up about important changes to Kentucky’s school bus stopping law, effective July 15, 2026.

The New Rule:
Drivers must stop for a school or church bus displaying its stop arm and flashing red lights from either direction on all roads.

For Casey County residents, this will impact Hwy US 127 (Wallace Wilkinson Boulevard). If there is no physical barrier or unpaved median, you must stop—even on a four-lane and five-lane road.

Vehicle Owner Responsibility:
If a driver illegally passes a stopped school bus and cannot be identified, Kentucky law now presumes the registered owner or lessee was driving and subjects them to the penalties provided by law unless that presumption is rebutted.

Casey County Family Resource and Youth Service Center Coordinators Partner with Burns & McDonnell to Support Local Students

Casey County Family Resource and Youth Service Center Coordinators Shelley Rousey, Missy Warner, and Shelly Wesley recently met with Ryan Strickland and Sean Burke representatives from Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company to discuss the development of a partnership focused on supporting children and families in Casey County.

Burns & McDonnell has been hired by East Kentucky Power Cooperative to assist with the planning, construction, and assessment of the Liberty Station power plant currently being built on Carr Sasser Road. Once completed, the project is expected to provide power to approximately 95,000 homes.

While the power plant project is under construction, Burns & McDonnell plans to become an active and supportive member of the Casey County community. As an employee-owned company, Burns & McDonnell is committed to building meaningful relationships within the communities where its employees live and work.

The initial conversation with the Family Resource and Youth Service Center Coordinators focused on ways Burns & McDonnell can partner with the Casey County School District to provide meaningful support and opportunities for local students and families. The discussion included a variety of exciting possibilities that could be developed over the next two years as the construction project progresses.

Casey County Schools is grateful for the opportunity to build this partnership and looks forward to working alongside Burns & McDonnell to identify innovative ways to support our students, families, and community.
