🚀 We had so much fun wrapping up our Outer Space Week today!
The students made rocket ships using their names! First, they wrote their names on colorful paper squares, then glued them onto sparkly black “outer space” paper. After that, they added different shapes to turn their names into rocket ships and finished them off with lots of fun space stickers. 🌟🪐
It’s always awesome to see how creative each child is—every rocket turned out unique!
We had such a fun week learning about outer space, and this was the perfect way to end it. 💙✨

At the heart of Grassroots Education is our individually paced curriculum, where each child progresses through core K-5 competencies at their own natural pace. With low student-teacher ratios, students can engage in meaningful hands-on learning and move forward when they demonstrate true mastery — not according to a fixed timeline.
Through inquiry, critical reasoning, and creative expression, children build deep conceptual understanding while developing independence and confidence. Our curriculum aligns with Missouri DESE Learning Standards, giving students strong academic foundations without the pressure of grade-level expectations.
The result is capable, self-directed learners who truly own their education and develop a genuine love of learning.

Outer Space Week is in full swing! 🚀
Today our students created beautiful galaxy paintings while learning about the amazing universe around us. Through art, children explore creativity, fine motor skills, self-expression, and scientific curiosity.
The results were truly out of this world! ⭐✨

🌱Our classroom money tree officially has a name!🌱
Today, the kiddos decided they wanted to name our money tree plant. Each child came up with a name idea, and then we voted to choose our favorite using tally marks.
What started as a fun, child-led activity turned into a great learning opportunity! The students practiced making tally marks, counting votes, comparing numbers, and gathering information to make a decision as a group.
They also help care for our money tree by watering it, which builds responsibility and independence through practical life experiences.
One of my favorite things about Montessori-inspired learning is how naturally lessons grow from the children’s interests. 💚🌿

What if education focused less on moving kids through grades… and more on helping them truly master what they’re learning?
At Grass Roots Education, that’s exactly what we do differently.
We use a competency-based approach for our K-5 program — replacing the traditional grade system with:
• Deep conceptual understanding
• Hands-on exploration and real experiences
• Personalized pacing that meets each child where they are
From a phonics-first foundation in Language Arts and science experiments that spark real inquiry, to math taught as the language of reasoning and social studies that starts with their own community — we build strong, lasting skills instead of just checking boxes.
We weave in daily Spanish, music, art, and outdoor exploration because children learn best when their whole selves are engaged and joyful.
The result isn’t just a roadmap to fifth-grade proficiency (or beyond). It’s confident kids who understand deeply and actually love learning.
Education built from the ground up — for the way children actually grow.

Today our young engineers put their problem-solving skills to the test!
Using pool noodles, sponges, and water, students designed and built their own river systems. They experimented with different slope inclines, observed how water flowed, and discovered that changing the angle affected the speed of the water.
Through hands-on play, they explored engineering, physics, critical thinking, teamwork, and the scientific process—all while having fun!
At Grass Roots Education, we believe some of the best learning happens when children are encouraged to explore, create, test, and discover. 🌱💧
Today our students became boat engineers! 🚢
Using only aluminum foil, each child designed and built their own boat before putting it to the test. We added gems one at a time to see how much weight each boat could hold before water got in and it sank.
Through this simple experiment, students explored:
✔️ Engineering design
✔️ Problem-solving
✔️ Prediction and observation
✔️ Cause and effect
✔️ Buoyancy and weight distribution
✔️ Perseverance through trial and error
Hands-on learning helps children discover science concepts in a way that’s engaging, meaningful, and fun!
