Assessment + Intervention + Advocacy for Learning

07/15/2025

Parents often wonder when they should consider professional education assessments. Do these sound familiar?

The "Practice Work Survival Challenge" Signs:
- Reading feels like decoding ancient hieroglyphics
- Writing assignments turn into family Olympic events
- Instructions go in one ear and... where did they go?
- Math problems seem to vanish into thin air (but somehow never get solved)

Clues That Their Brain Works Differently:
- Phonological processing difficulties
- Memory plays hide-and-seek (and usually wins)
- Words get all jumbled up like alphabet soup
- Processing information feels like buffering... buffering... buffering...

The Emotional Weather Report:
- School practice work time = instant thunderstorm
- School confidence is running on empty
- Meltdowns happen faster than you can say "math worksheet"
- Your amazing kid thinks they're "just not smart" (spoiler: they totally are!)

When Teachers Start Saying:
- "We need to talk..."
- "Have you considered..."
- "Your child would benefit from..."

The Home Life Reality Check:
- Homework takes longer than a Marvel movie
- Family dinner conversations revolve around school struggles
- Bedtime conversations include "Why can't I just be normal?"
- You're Googling "learning differences" at 2 AM

The good news? If you're relating to several of these, an educational assessment might provide a diagnostic foundation for success! Early support can be life-changing.
Trust your parent gut – you know your kid best!

Dr Brent Moore Neural Pathways Learning Center demonstrates how a dyslexia diagnosis not only impacts the person diagnosed but alters the dynamics of their family system and suggests strategies from the family systems theory to influence the stability or growth of the entire system positively in his article "Dyslexia Through a Family Systems Lens" published in the November issue of the Dystinct Magazine.

Anxiety, ADHD, and dyslexia 05/28/2021

The relationship between anxiety, ADHD, and dyslexia is...

Anxiety, ADHD, and dyslexia Anxiety, ADHD, and dyslexia go together like baseball and hot dogs (unless, of course, you have a gluten allergy…then skip the bun). I was recently asked what Neural Pathways Learning Center does. In short, we help with anxiety, attention, and focus among children, adolescents, and adults. If you ...

Enhanced visceromotor emotional reactivity in dyslexia and its relation to salience network connectivity 05/22/2021

This study demonstrates that right-hemisphere-based emotional reactivity is significantly elevated in dyslexic participants. While sensitivity to facial cues can increase social skills, greater vulnerabilities to anxiety and depression were found.

The ability to downregulate and experience calm is important for everyone. Consider the importance of these skills in learning, especially if predispositions exist for those who meet criteria for dyslexia.

Enhanced visceromotor emotional reactivity in dyslexia and its relation to salience network connectivity Dyslexia is a neurodevelopmental disorder mainly defined by reading difficulties. During reading, individuals with dyslexia exhibit hypoactivity in le…
