It’s a great day to celebrate all the languages spoken at Northern! Thank you to the Lexington public library for the library card that also serve as LexTran bus passes for the summer!
We invite you to join us as we share stories from the field, what has and hasn’t worked, our laughs and cries, and reminders of WHY we do what we do.

We are learning our letters! Using a letter routine, reading the alphabet chart, incorporating environmental print, making a name chart, and writing about classmates’ names gives our kindergarten students multiple exposures to letters and sounds EVERY SINGLE DAY!! 🙌🏻
With repetition and intentionality our kindergarteners are taking on letters at an amazing rate. 🔤📝

Hip-hip-hooray! Thanks to an AWESOME intervention team and quality classroom instruction, our first groups of second and third grade students are exiting RISE!!! 🙌🏻 These kiddos have reached text levels where they can better work on grade level material AND they have the processing system to help themselves when they are reading and writing. 📖✏️

Our second graders are learning about procedural writing and what better way than to make your own pizzas and write about the steps. We now have expert pizza chefs! Watch out !

Give some kids an experience and they’ll tell you a story! Our second graders made slime then wrote a procedural piece about how to make it. This was an activity they will never forget and a writing they may keep forever. All things tie back to literacy!!📖✏️🥰

While reading Who Was Gandhi, our students learned how to find evidence to support a claim about empathy and kindness. The most important part? Students then connected the same themes to their lives today! Experiencing reading, writing, and talking about a text helps readers to connect with the text and be changed in some way. Let’s use literature to make the world a better place! 📖💕
