Pre-Algebra students have begun exploring the world of integers—positive and negative whole numbers—using hands-on Algebra tile manipulatives and number line comparisons. By approaching integers through these two different lenses, students are developing a deeper understanding of the concepts while discovering which strategies and representations work best for them as middle school mathematicians.

Our Mission in Action - Our second graders had a buzzing good time exploring the fascinating world of insects right on Sayre's Campus. Led by University of Kentucky entomologist Blake Newton, the second graders explored campus looking for all the insects that call Sayre home.

This walk is part of the longer term project-based learning experience. It not only deepens their understanding of these amazing creatures but also fostered creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. They will use the knowledge gained on this walk as part of the larger insect unit which will lead into their insect build.

Dot Day is a day inspired by the children’s book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds. The story is about a child named Vashti who believes she can’t draw. Her teacher encourages her to simply “make a mark and see where it takes you.” She starts with one dot, and that small beginning helps her discover her creativity and confidence.

Dot Day celebrates courage, exploration, self-expression, and a growth mindset, reinforcing the idea, “I can try something new, even when I’m not sure I can do it yet.”

Our 8th grade scientists are putting physics to the test!

Using different types of balls, students explored how drop height changes the ball's initial gravitational potential energy and final kinetic energy just before impact.

It was a hands-on, high-energy way to visualize mechanical energy transformations!🔬
