“The NRF Student Program in New York was such an incredible experience! It gave me the chance to connect with so many people in the industry, learn from brands I’ve always looked up to, and see a real representation of what a career in retail looks like in the real world. One of my favorite parts was the executive mentor experience, because I was able to have genuine conversations and gain advice from inspiring leaders currently working in the industry. It also inspired me to put myself out there and helped me feel a lot more confident about my future career in retail! I could not recommend attending NRF more!!”

“The National Retail Federation Student Program was one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had, and something I don’t take for granted. I went into it excited, but I truly didn’t realize just how much I would grow from it both personally and professionally. Being surrounded by individuals who have built and shaped the fashion and retail industry was incredibly inspiring, and having the opportunity to learn directly from them felt like such a privilege. What impacted me most was not just the knowledge they shared, but the way they were so willing to pour into students like me. Every conversation, every panel and every moment of mentorship gave me a clearer perspective on what it means to step into this industry with both confidence and humility. It made everything I’ve been working toward feel more tangible. Experiencing all of this in New York City made it even more special. Being in an environment that has always felt like a dream to me, while also taking real steps toward my future, was something I’ll never forget.I’m incredibly grateful for the connections I was able to make and the opportunities to speak with companies I once only admired from a distance. More than anything, this experience reminded me how much there is still to learn, and how excited I am to continue growing. I will always be thankful for the opportunity the NRF Student Program gave me, and for the people who made it so impactful.”

Senior Spotlight 🎓✨
KATIE MILLER

“I’m a senior in the Merchandising, Apparel, and Textiles (MAT) program, and I’ve truly loved every minute of my time here at UK. I’m so grateful for my professors and the friendships I’ve made along the way—especially the girls in my program who I know will be lifelong friends.

During my time in MAT, I was part of the event team for our annual fashion show, where I gained hands-on experience helping plan and execute a large-scale event. I also had the opportunity to participate in MAT 480 study trips to New York City in October 2024 and January 2026, where I attended the National Retail Federation Conference and gained valuable insight into the retail industry. I’m so thankful to the department for providing such incredible opportunities that have helped shape my experience and future career.”
