He is greatly missed. What a beautiful stallion.
It always took a lot of patience and waiting to get a decent photo of Picasso, but it was well worth the wait. I wasn't one to just snap a photo and move on - I spent a lot of time watching and studying the horses and their interactions. That was the only way to learn their habits and personalities.
Picasso had a habit of turning his back to people if they approached him with cameras. And if you tried to walk around him, he would turn almost in sync. So the best way to catch a good glimpse of him, was simply to position yourself and wait.
Over the years my biggest frustration was watching people chase after him, especially large groups that at times would encircle him and his band. More than once I removed myself from that type of behavior, and even admonishing well known photographers for their invasive and aggressive tactics.
My best advice for taking photos of the wild horses, is to approach them while walking at a moderate pace and I always talk to them. Why? So they can identify me as not being a threat. If you creep up on a horse, especially on the ground, they might perceive you as a predator. I have watched people on the ground nearly get run over and stomped by stallions that perceived the person as a threat. It's even more dangerous if the band has a new foal.

He looks very healthy.
The handsome grey curly stallion, Dollar, leads his family to water. The curly horses of Salt Wells Creek, including Dollar, are absolutely magnificent....each and every one of them.

First of all that baby is ADORABLE!!!! When I see the different looks of the herds I try to picture what a ancestors job could of been. This mare is heavy b***d like she may come from work horses. Can you believe that my father use to plow with horses in the fields. No electricity. Times have changed so much in our lifetime. Long Live the Mustang.

She has fairy braids. RIP. You are missed.
Today we are grieving the loss of our beloved South Steens senior mare Corazon but life must carry on and we have 80 more souls who depend on us everyday so we must stay strong and vigilant for them!
It’s $1 Club Wednesday in case you didn’t know!
Did you know that we have a monthly $1 club? What if we told you that for just $1 a month you could help us change and save lives?
Join today and make a difference! Be sure to select “monthly” to make it a reoccurring donation which will help us provide lifelong care for the mustangs and help us be more sustainable for the long term and help us ensure a safe and forever home for so many mustangs in need. Each week on Wednesdays we will randomly draw a name from the pool of our $1 monthly club members to win some WRMS swag!
So many times we see comments from supporters saying “It’s only a drop in the bucket” or “I wish it could be more” and don’t donate because they believe it doesn’t matter or it isn’t enough to help but what people don’t realize is that your contribution whether big or small will make a difference and always matters!
We are seeking a long term solution to help us be more sustainable and keep our doors open for many years to come for so many deserving and needy mustangs. We are hoping our $1 per month club will encourage more supporters to make a small donation every month knowing it truly does make a difference and help us cover the every day feed and care these mustangs require.
Our page has over 61,000 followers! Imagine if everyone set up a reoccurring donation every month for just $1! The majority of people have that lying in the bottom of their purse or in the change holder in their car. Imagine the lives we could change if we all came together and committed $1 to the mustangs every month! We could do some amazing things!
But we need your help. We could never do any of this without your help. The truth…The uncertainty with donations puts a lot of stress on us and many times we find our family covering the difference of expenses. When we know what to expect with reoccurring monthly donations then it helps us better budget our expenses like feed and medical costs. We know we aren’t the only organization feeling the pressure of the current economy. We are looking for solutions to help aid us in funding. The mustangs have to eat no matter what. That’s first and foremost. Please know your $1 goes far and makes a difference both to us and the mustangs!
So today we challenge you to take that step and make a difference and set up a monthly reoccurring donation. And we challenge you to share our link and challenge your family and friends to do the same. Because together we can and we will make a difference for the mustangs!
Click on the link below to set up your $1 Per Month Club reoccurring monthly donation. Be sure to select “Monthly” to officially join the club and set your donation up as an automatic reoccurring monthly donation.

📸 The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree with this one! This is Maestro from Sand Wash Basin Colorado. Can you guess who is mama is??? Yep! Our golden girl Honeyspice who sports the same long fairy knots as this stunning boy! He looks exactly like his mother except in a gray edition! Maestro is a lighthearted fun loving fella who third wheels it with Minko and his mare Darcy but they don’t mind the extra company! Maestro acts as a satellite gelding for Minko and is very protective of Darcy. It’s interesting that those behaviors and social dynamics carry over off the range.
