Last day! Fellows are on the road again -- this time, exploring memorialization and public history at the National D-Day Memorial in nearby Bedford.

Today, fellows are engaging the Cold War with Dr. Gregory Daddis, a distinguished 20th century historian from Texas A&M University.

Yesterday, Summer Seminar fellows discussed approaches to teaching recent conflicts, and airpower, with Dr. Mary Elizabeth Walters. Great day of learning and exploration!

Last night, after a hard day of history-ing, Summer Seminar fellows enjoyed pizza and the classic Cold War film, "The Hunt for Red October." What's your favorite Cold War movie?

Fellows started the week hearing from Dr. Jadwiga Biskupska of the U.S. Army War College, who facilitated discussion on "Teaching from Research," pedagogical approaches to World War II, and the challenges of transforming a dissertation into a first book. Hard to believe we're into the Summer Seminar's second half!

Last staff ride stop of the day for the Summer Seminar fellows! With Dr. Bradford Wineman, they're dissecting the last day of the Battle of Chancellorsville and learning how to integrate staff ride pedagogy into their teaching of military history.

Today the Summer Seminar is on the road, experiencing a staff ride on the Battle of Chancellorsville, led by Dr. Bradford Wineman '99. First stop, Chatham Manor, where fellows are studying U.S. Army's approaches to Fredericksburg.

Today, Summer Seminar fellows visited the VMI Museum, where one member of the cohort REALLY got into the swing of things! In the barracks room exhibit, USAF Lt. Col. Joe Eanett '07 and Cadet Jacob Tinsley '29 outfitted Kaylie McCarthy for winter parade.
