It was a joy to lead students through etiquette training yesterday. Two classes full of Dining Etiquette students as well as Mini Manners students.

It is not about which fork to use during a meal, rather how to show kindness and respect for others daily.

In a world that spends more time on technology than meeting people face to face, practicing social interactions is not only important but also a significant differentiator for students. Providing students a space to practice and learn together is the greatest joy.

This class focuses on etiquette principles including how to greet someone, interacting during a meeting/interview as well as navigating a multi-course meal. Lunch is included! This class is ideal for teens.

Email Etiquette

Just this past week, I heard complaints from 3 different people on the challenges with email communication.

Here are 5 tips to improve your email communications:

1. Address recipients correctly. Ensure you spell names correctly and use proper titles.

2. Give a specific subject line.

3. Avoid using all caps, emojis, or any type of text speak. Keep emails more formal.

4. Try to have one main topic per email.

5. Be responsive with receiving emails. Ideally, respond in the same business day or within 24 hours. Even if you cannot complete the task in time, let the recipient know you see the email and will follow up.

A wonderful evening with the UK Patterson School Graduate Students as they begin their program. An understanding of etiquette especially in diplomatic relations matters greatly. Insight from a Retired Diplomat made for excellent conversation. Students were engaged and asked great questions.

Mini Manners is at 3:00
Students will learn an introduction to etiquette and will practice basic table manners while having cake and punch. This class is geared to elementary students.
