Harvest on the Hill
Recent tour of the University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) for the 2026 Harvest on the Hill.
Ag and WBL students got a firsthand look at the diverse, cutting-edge world of agriscience, starting with a fascinating tour of the UGA Entomology Insect Zoo. Then we headed over to the CAES Department of Food Science, watching chemistry in action, as we tasted fresh ice cream flash-frozen right before our eyes using liquid nitrogen.
Followed by a CAES Department Resource Fair, where students explored different academic majors, connected with faculty, and discovered the endless career paths available in agriculture and environmental sciences. We wrapped up the event with a visit from Hairy Dawg and dinner at Four Towers!
A big thank you to UGA CAES for hosting such an engaging, educational, and inspiring event for our future leaders!
Thank you to our Ag teachers Jordan Paul and Travis Sertich for including WBL in this awesome event and Mrs. Erin Bunch for chaperoning!

One of the absolute highlights of our Work-Based Learning program is collaborating with other classrooms to build employability skills.
Recently, we had a blast teaming up across the district:
* 🩺 At OCHS: Working with Mrs. Kelley Mathews’ Healthcare classes on setting SMART Goals.
* 🔔At OCMS: Joining Mrs. Jill Barnes’ Career class for interview prep, elevator speeches, and professionalism.

There is nothing better than seeing students practice their skills through hands-on lessons and role-playing! 💙
Thank you to these incredible teachers—and everyone playing a role—to prepare our students for successful futures!

Bright Soe is a wonderful student intern at OCHS who consistently proves to be an all-around great helper. Demonstrating remarkable flexibility, Bright floats between various locations to support our team wherever he is needed most. He has spent time assisting in the weight room, the art room, the main office, and the media center. Bright's quiet strength is a true asset; he diligently follows instructions and completes every task to the absolute best of his ability. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Bright has earned our sincere gratitude for his dedicated service.
Thank you to Bright for the many ways he helps to keep us all going and thank you to the adults who are mentoring him along the way!

Blazers in Lexington is home to FIVE of our Work-Based Learning students!
Blazers has been an excellent business partner giving our students a chance to gain workplace skills!
For many of these students, this has been their first ever job so we are especially appreciative of Blazers for giving our students a chance to spread their wings.
Speaking of wings, go by and pick some up to support our students and see them in action!
Great job to Maria Canas-Lawrence, Caleb Evans, Akira Owens, Alaina Waldroup, and Josiah Young as they learn the ropes and gain work experience!!

Kynlee Bohannon, a dedicated junior in the Work-Based Learning program, is one of our exceptional student interns serving directly at the high school. Demonstrating versatility, Kynlee balances her placement time between supporting daily operations in the front office and assisting the instructor in the Healthcare Sciences classroom.
Whether she is welcoming visitors with good customer service or efficiently organizing lab and classroom supplies, Kynlee consistently proves herself to be reliable, proactive, and positive.
Thank you to Mrs. Rindy and Mrs. Kelley Matthews for mentoring this student.

Qi’Dasha Fleming, a junior at OCHS is completing a Work-Based Learning internship at OCHS under the mentorship of Dr. DeShonda Wolfe.
Known for her warm personality, kind spirit, and eager attitude, Qi’Dasha consistently excels in her role as an assistant. She approaches every task—regardless of size—with enthusiasm and dedication, making her an outstanding ambassador for the Work-Based Learning program.
We extend our gratitude to Dr. Wolfe for her mentorship, guidance, and ongoing encouragement.

Oglethorpe Feed and Hardware Supply is home to three of our fantastic Work-Based Learning students for their job placements: Walker Glaze, Blake Hairston, and Lincoln Paradise.
Each of these fellas are gaining valuable, real-world experience during their time at OFHS. When it comes to customer service, these guys are truly the best in the business. They'll see you pulling in, ask your order and have you loaded up before you can even open the front door of the store!
Whether fulfilling orders, running the register, or operating the forklift, these guys are getting hands-on experiences to build their skill sets and expand their opportunities.

We love seeing our students thrive in the workforce!

A huge thank you goes out to Oglethorpe Feed and Hardware Supply for being an amazing business partner over the years.
Their dedication goes beyond employment, they truly invest in the next generation and have mentored countless local young people!

Nora Turner, a senior, is a valuable part of the team at the Chick-fil-A on Barnett Shoals in Athens. She assists in the fast-paced restaurant environment by keeping the lines moving inside or out, ensuring orders are accurate!
When interacting with customers, Nora excels at the restaurant's standards by having a positive smile and the famous "my pleasure" response.
Nora’s reliable presence and willingness to chip in helps the busy Athens location run smoothly during peak hours!

Job Interviews
High school students in grades 9–12 enrolled in Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) courses had the opportunity to participate in mock job interviews. Throughout the day, local community and industry members volunteered as judges, interviewing more than 250 students. The judges evaluated professional skills, reviewed responses, and generously provided insightful feedback, advice, and wisdom to help prepare students for their future careers.
We are incredibly grateful to our CTAE teachers for teaching students essential employability skills, our supportive school staff, and all the individuals who worked together to make this event a success.
