This Spring Term, students in Creating Comics are exploring graphic narratives as a dynamic blend of visual art and storytelling. Co-taught by Studio Art professor Leigh Ann Beavers and English professor Chris Gavaler, the experiential course challenges students to create their own multi-page comics while discovering how images can shape narrative and meaning. 📷

Jordan Hoover creates black-and-white photographs that layer multiple exposures of portraits and landscapes to explore the deep connection between people, memory, and the natural world. Blending personal relationships with place, their work invites viewers to reflect on belonging and responsibility

Our third spotlight is on ✨ Katie Lawson. ✨
Katie Lawson creates layered acrylic and pastel paintings that depict solitary figures in domestic spaces, using texture, distortion, and expressive mark-making to reveal raw, often overlooked emotional narratives. Balancing tension with humor and irony, her work highlights the complexity of authentic human experience.
Katie's work is on view in Undercurrents at Staniar Gallery through April 10.
