One of my favorite quotes

How we, as a society, respond to these kids can make such a difference in their lives.
We need to walk alongside them and help them grow, not stifle their creativity or reject answers that they may not be equipped to articulate in the "correct" way.
Dyslexia means that the brain functions differently. It is by no means lack of intelligence or lack of effort.
But we can encourage and nourish that effort by equipping students with the tools that they need to decipher the English language and to process information in a way that makes sense to them.
Nix-lexia provides tutoring with an intervention that has proven to be effective, so get in touch if you think that your child might benefit from such academic assistance!
Decoding Dyslexia - UT shared this letter a couple of years ago and we wanted to remind you of it as we start to prepare our kids for the upcoming school year.
Teachers can make the difference in a school year and this resource is a wonderful way to help educate a teacher about your child!

(in addition to all of the symptoms mentioned in the last 2 posts on this page)
Dyslexia warning signs in elementary school:

Though the last two points in particular can be rather common in children, having 3 or more of these warning signs could mean that your child had dyslexia.
There are various warning signs for dyslexia in different age groups.

- a close relative with dyslexia

If your child has at least 3 of these warning signs, we encourage you to learn more about dyslexia and consider the help that the Barton system offers.
It's amazing to see the progress of students who work through this program!
"Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin.
It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition, and by poor spelling and decoding abilities.
These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction.
Secondary consequences may include problems in reading comprehension and reduced reading experience that can impede growth of vocabulary and background knowledge."
