Roger Elwood Fathergill Obituary
Roger Elwood Fathergill, son of Betty Jean Leonard (Estes), Chester Elwood Fathergill, Dorman Wylie Elliott (stepfather) and Charles Alan Leonard (stepfather); grandson to Ethel & John Brim (Mammie & Papa) passed away in his Frankfort home on June 22nd, 2024. At 69, born of Garrard County, Kentucky on June 6th, 1955, Roger was loved by many because of his goofy, outgoing and adventurous personality.
Although he was known to many as Rog or Dodge, ironically, he was a Chevrolet fan & sold cars for the majority of his career. Roger found joy in cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats, Cincinnati Reds, going for long hikes and camping. He specifically spent a lot of time at Red River Gorge. His love of nature was seen through his enjoyment of planting flowers, plants and vegetables every year. Roger was known for buying an abundance of fireworks to celebrate the 4th of July & listening to Tom Petty & the Eagles. For many years, he was highly involved with AA and had a passion for helping others overcome addiction & find Jesus. Impressively, he could quote the bible from front to back & carried it with him at all times.
Roger is survived by his 3 daughters, Brittany Fathergill, Kelly Fathergill , Kerri & husband Uzias González; 3 grandchildren, Eleanor Slaymaker, Noemi González & Leo González; and sisters Gloria Jean Johnson (Breck Johnson), Tina Elliott (Don Bolinger) and Tammy Scott (Thad Scott). He is also survived by many other caring family members & friends who will remember precious & often goofy memories shared with him. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
We are sad that our time with him here on Earth feels shortened, but we are thankful that he is at peace & are confident that because of his relationship with the Lord, we will see him again.
A UK themed celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, July 7th at 3pm at 207 Paddock Dr., Nicholasville, KY.
Rest in peace, Roger, for you have taught us all about how fragile life is and that it should be cherished. You have taught us how to have grace for others, for we don’t know the troubles they have been through. You will be remembered and certainly not forgotten. We love you.
In lieu of flowers, please send contribution to AA, The American Heart Association or plant a tree in his memory.
Care Cremation and Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with final care.
