The LCA Percussion Ensemble is comprised of students from Central Kentucky, and performs a wide variety of percussion literature.
The LCA Percussion Ensemble (LCAP) was created in the fall of 2008 out of the band program’s interest in fielding a competitive indoor drumline. In its inaugural season, the group competed in the TriState Circuit in the Scholastic B Class. Membership in this group was primarily comprised of high school students who were interested in taking up percussion as a secondary instrument. Over the next fe
w seasons, LCAP found its niche as a concert/ chamber group, and proceeded to win a silver and gold medal in the Scholastic Concert A Class in 2010 and 2012 respectively. In recent years, LCAP has greatly expanded its repertoire, widening the scope of its potential performance venues far beyond the realm of competition. The ensemble hosted its first-ever standalone concert in 2013 – “Coins, Rings, and Rupees” – which featured music from popular video games. In 2016 they performed alongside several professional musicians in their second standalone production – “Heartbeat of the World” – which showcased musical styles from all over the world. The ensemble collaborated with the GRC Percussion Ensemble in their 2019 production, “From Beethoven to Béla Fleck.” LCAP continues to perform at concerts throughout the school year, and has been featured at sporting events and chapel services. LCAP frequently branches out into the local community and abroad. The ensemble performed at the 2014 World Strides Heritage Festival in Chicago, IL, Magic Music Days at Walt Disney World in 2015, and the 2016 Music in the Parks Festival at Kings Island. LCAP has given educational presentations on percussion performance at Joseph Beth Booksellers, and regularly performed as a part of their “Story Time” series. Members have been selected by audition to join the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) All-State and All-District Bands, the KMEA All-State Percussion Ensemble, Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra (CKYO), and the Governor’s School for the Arts. Students have performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), garnered accolades as Kentucky Day of Percussion Solo Champions in multiple disciplines, and have been selected as CKYO Concerto Champion. Members have performed as World Finalists/ Medalists with WGI and DCI ensembles, and multiple alumni have gone on to study music at the university level. LCAP is under the direction of Jeremy Wade.
