We were so excited to be involved in the recording and production of this podcast highlighting the work of an incredible member of the Rockbridge community!
What starts as a backyard garden can grow into something much bigger. In this episode of SHECP Talks 🎙️ — Jim Kvach talks to Washington and Lee University student Emily Scaff and shares how his small farm grew into a long-term commitment to supporting the Rockbridge Area Relief Association and expanding access to fresh, nutritious food. What began as personal farming has become a community effort rooted in one idea: neighbors helping neighbors. ❤️

Very excited for this upcoming event!
Fresh produce plays a vital role in addressing food access barriers. Beyond being nutrient dense, fresh produce plays an important role in centering human dignity and supporting community cohesion, and specific foods can carry cultural significance. Organizations have found creative ways to incorporate food production — from large-scale farming operations, to community gardens, to backyard efforts — into their efforts.
On Tuesday, February 17th, Maureen McNamara Best, Executive Director of the Local Environmental Agriculture Project (LEAP), and Zach Zook, Chief Strategy Officer for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, will join us to discuss how their organizations are integrating food production into their efforts to improve food access and build resilient communities.
This event is open to the public. More details and link to register: https://www.shepherdconsortium.org/post/farming-food-security-upcoming-springboard-series-event
