The African American Ballet Troupe, founded by Kayla Chambers-Reed, a tenth-grade contemporary dance major at SCAPA Lafayette, is presenting a special holiday show next week! 🩰The Ebony Nutcracker debuts on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at The Lyric Theatre! We are very excited for Kayla and the work that she's doing to expose underserved youth populations to ballet! Students from Paul Laurence Dunbar High collected toys again this year to fill the Kentucky Children's Hospital pediatric transport as part of the school's STLP Toy Drive! 🤗 The drive reached a 15-year milestone this year, collecting more than 300 toys to gift to patients. Great job to the students in STLP, TSA, National Honor Society, Beta Club, and more who participated!

🏆 In case you missed it... the Frederick Douglass High Broncos defeated Bowling Green to win the Class 5A State Championship on Saturday! This is the team's first state championship win! Congratulations to the Broncos for an incredible season!

Students in the Principles of Agriculture class at Locust Trace AgriScience Center enjoyed a fun-filled field trip to the Kentucky Castle! 🐐 They experienced a tour of the Castle Farm to learn about the garden that grows produce for the on-site restaurant, met some animals native to the Bluegrass, and paused for GOAT YOGA!

Help us "Fill the Food Truck!" 🍏 Our Child Nutrition team is hosting a food drive to benefit God's Pantry. You can donate non-perishable items at the John D. Price Administration Building (located at 450 Park Place) until 3 p.m.! Thank you to all who have already donated!

You must purchase tickets online in advance, security screening will be conducted at every entrance, and attendance will be limited according to each stadium’s capacity. No bags or purses will be permitted in the stadium. As usual, law enforcement officers will be at both games. Please allow extra time for parking and security lines.

Yesterday, the Bryan Station Air Force Junior ROTC hosted a special ceremony to honor Air Force Colonel Kelly Cook, a BSHS class of 1939 graduate. Nov. 10 marks the 55th anniversary of his death while serving in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. In remembrance, the AF JROTC presented Colonel Cook's family with an honorary flag.

The Diversity Healthcare Program, a thriving partnership between UK HealthCare and Bryan Station High School, has officially entered year 2 after inducting its second cohort last week. 🩺 “Not everybody feels seen when they go to the doctor, and you can be the person who helps and lets them know you’re there for them,” said Amaya Young, a sophomore who entered the program last year. Due to the wildfires in Estill County, outdoor air conditions are in the fair range today- meaning exposure is unhealthy for sensitive groups. Our Health Services team recommended to school leaders that students with asthma or other respiratory conditions are not sent outside for recess or classroom activities. Our nurses are also aware of the heightened risk and are prepared to assist students as needed. We will continue to monitor the conditions and take additional steps if necessary.

The school-based health clinics at Cardinal Valley, Harrison, and Tates Creek Elementary Schools are open until 4 p.m. today to provide services to any students and families.

ANNOUNCEMENT: All schools are closed on Monday, November 7, due to the increasing number of student and staff out sick because of various illnesses. Afternoon and evening student activities are canceled for all schools. Adult activities (like SBDM meetings and PTA meetings) may continue at the principal’s discretion.
All schools were already scheduled to be closed for Election Day on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
