Welcome to the official page for Lexington Local Schools located in the village of Lexington, Ohio. We are a public school district serving approximately 2,400 Pre-K through grade 12 students residing in parts of Richland and Morrow counties. We are committed to our mission: "The Lexington Local Schools, through a partnership with our children's families and our community, will provide the BEST possible curricular and co-curricular opportunities to challenge all students to reach their highest potential, to enjoy learning and to make positive contributions within their homes and communities." We rise to the challenge of our mission by staying true to our philosophy; embracing the individuality of students and providing a stimulating and invigorating learning environment for our entire student body. 🚒🚔🪖 Western Elementary kindergarteners had an exciting Community Helpers Week, meeting some of the amazing people who make a difference in our community every day!

Throughout the week, students welcomed a different community helper each day, including a construction worker, police officer, firefighters, paramedics, librarian, and members of the military!

Students loved learning about their important roles, asking questions, and discovering how each helps keep our community safe and running smoothly. 👏

A big thank you to all the special guests who took the time to visit and share their experiences with our young Minutemen!

The 0.75% earned income tax is the second school issue on the Nov. 3rd ballot. Unlike a traditional income tax, this tax is uniquely designed to protect fixed incomes and retirement savings by focusing only on active earnings. Here are the essentials:

- Does not tax retirement income, protecting the fixed income of all retirees
- Does not tax other passive, unearned income, such as interest earnings, capital gains, stock dividends, unemployment benefits, etc
- Generates $3.54 million annually to prevent operating deficits
- 10-year term to provide financial stability while giving our community a continued voice
- Represents the first new operating levy for the District since 2011
- Average resident cost: $375 per year, or $31.25 per month, based on Lexington’s average annual income of $50,000

At $30,000 in earned income, the cost is $225 per year. At $100,000, the cost is $750 per year.

🦴📚 Learning was bone-afide fun in Ms. Rush’s class at Central Elementary! After reading "Bonaparte Falls Apart" by Margery Cuyler, students explored how to identify a problem, determine steps to solve it, and find a solution.

To wrap up the lesson, students created their own edible bones using marshmallows, pretzel sticks, and white chocolate! They then put their writing skills to work by creating step-by-step instructions explaining how to make their tasty treats. 🍫✏️ What a sweet way to combine reading, writing, and problem-solving!

🍎🍏 Mrs. Knapp’s first graders at Western Elementary celebrated Johnny Appleseed’s birthday with a day full of apple-themed fun! Students made homemade applesauce, enjoyed tasty apple treats, and read books about apples and their life cycles. 📚

They also put their creativity to the test with a STEM challenge, using blocks and their imaginations to build their own apples! What an apple-solutely fun way to learn and celebrate!

👏 Congratulations to Kylie M., Jersie P., Addison S., and Tessa T. on being selected to represent Lexington High School in the Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development Young Leaders Institute Program this year!

During their recent session, students explored the importance of being coachable, helpful, and assuming positive intent. They also teamed up with students from area schools and staff from Schmidt Total Protection to learn about the security industry and develop creative business solutions to real-world customer concerns. 💡🤝

We're proud of these Minutemen for their leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills!

⚽ 100 WINS AND COUNTING! Congratulations to Coach Buck Morton on earning his 100th victory as the Lady Lex Varsity Soccer Coach! 👏

Now in his 10th season leading the girls soccer program, Coach Morton has reached another impressive milestone! He previously recorded 157 wins during his 13 seasons coaching Lexington Boys Soccer, bringing his combined career record to an incredible 257-138-46!

What an outstanding accomplishment and a testament to his dedication to Lexington soccer! 🎉

🎓 Here's something worth celebrating: 98.7% of Lexington's Class of 2025 graduated in four years, and our schools have earned five stars in Gap Closing five years running. That success happens in classrooms every day, with teachers, staff, and programs paid for through the district's operating budget.

The property tax renewal on the Nov. 3 ballot is a key part of that budget, providing $2.68 million a year for day-to-day operations:

-No new tax: it renews an existing levy
-No new millage: same funding, no increase
-5-year term: secures existing operating funding for five years

The property tax renewal represents the same levy originally passed in 2011, supporting the same classrooms behind Lexington’s four-star report card. Full fact sheet: lexington.k12.oh.us

These students demonstrated responsibility and good judgment when they noticed something suspicious and took action by alerting an adult. Their willingness to speak up and do the right thing is a great example of what it means to be a responsible Minuteman! Way to go! ⭐
