Meghan Dowell (assistant professor) recently presented at the Search Engines and Society Network (SEASON) Conference in Hamburg, Germany. Dr. Dowell's research is titled "Think-Alouds and Results Assessment: A Study of Health Information Seeking Among People Who Use(d) Drugs,” co-authored with SIS's own Jessalyn Vallade (associate professor) and funded by the College Research Activities fund.

Daniela DiGiacomo (associate professor) was invited to present at the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents 2026 Fall Summit in downtown Lexington, sharing a recent study she led on Kentucky student perspectives on and experiences with AI and learning. She presented alongside two Kentucky high school student researchers!

America Edwards (assistant professor) is one of the Lab Faculty for year 3 of the Social Ties Lab!

Year 3 of the Social Ties Lab is officially underway!

This year, our lab brings together students at the University of Kentucky and the University of Wisconsin Madison, including first- and third-year PhD students, along with University of Kentucky College of Communication and Information faculty representing both the Department of Communication and University of Kentucky School of Information Science.

Our work this year will broadly focus on health communication and memorable messages. Our goal is to move through the full research process together—from idea development and IRB to data collection, analysis, writing, and ultimately submission to a conference and/or journal.

We’re so excited to see what this group builds together over the next year!
