UK Libraries has assembled a new curated collection that highlights the work and research of the university’s many industrious scribblers and keen-eyed editors.

The University of Kentucky Authors Collection makes available in one place all the monographs whose authors or editors are affiliated with UK: a whopping 893 titles published since 2006, including 272 e-books and 621 print titles.

one of the largest civil engineering projects in the Western Hemisphere, the Pikeville Cut-Through re-routed a river, a railroad, and a highway through a man-made gap in Peach Orchard Mountain ⛰️ from 1973-1987, workers blasted 18 million cubic yards of soil and rock to help control flooding, create additional flat land for business and residential development, and provide fill for an airport 🏗️ now that's what we call Cattitude! 😻

not only does UK Libraries have some amazing visual materials documenting Pikeville before and after the project, courtesy of the phenomenal Karl Raitz Kentucky Slides, along with maps, postcards, and other photographic collections 📸 but we also have newspapers and personal papers that detail life all across Eastern Kentucky, together with the amazing Appalachian Regional Commission Records, which includes all manner of documents, correspondence, reports, and plans about the Pikeville Cut-Through and hundreds of other projects 📒

Cat, meet Double-Cat 🙀 the first time as tragedy, the second as farce! 🎭 the first in light, the second in shadow 🕯️ yes, we are all of us sensitive photographic films and plates, ever-exposed to the blaring sun, the blearing fluorescents, the bonny incandescence, flashbulbs, LEDs, screens and screens, moments and scenes, laying down traces in little curls of color, in little blooms of dust! 🪶 we are all of us over-exposed, twinned, twain, contradictory, multitudinous, crowded! one Cat on top of the other, but in the same Cat! two of you in just one you!
