THE SPARTAN LIFESTYLE
Why the Spartan Lifestyle Matters
The Spartan lifestyle isn't always easy. It challenges cadets to live with discipline, embrace accountability, and push beyond their comfort zones.
Along the way, shared hardships become shared victories. Classmates become lifelong friends. Challenges build confidence. Obstacles develop resilience.
Years later, alumni often point to the Spartan lifestyle as one of the most impactful parts of their time at VMI because it helped them discover what they were capable of achieving.

Happy Birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard! β
Today, we celebrate the men and women of the United States Coast Guard and their unwavering commitment to protecting our nation's waterways, safeguarding maritime commerce, and serving communities at home and abroad.
At VMI, cadets interested in Coast Guard service can participate in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary University Program (AUP)βthe largest AUP in the nation. The program provides leadership development, hands-on training, and mentorship while preparing cadets to pursue commissioning opportunities and careers across a wide range of Coast Guard specialties.

π Matriculation Mondays
What Gear Do You Need?
Preparing for Matriculation starts with the packing list.
β
Bring all required items listed by VMI.
β
Double-check sizes, quantities, and required documents.
β
Label items when appropriate.
π« What NOT To Bring
Leave unnecessary valuables, excessive clothing, and prohibited items at home. Bringing extra items can create more stress and make it harder to stay organized.
π¦ Organization Tip
Pack intentionally. Using labeled bags, packing cubes, or organizers can make it easier to find what you need during a busy first week.
π‘ Incoming rats: Review the packing list early and don't wait until the last minute. Being prepared before you arrive will help make your transition to VMI smoother.
Follow as we help the Rat Mass of 2027+3 and their families prepare for Matriculation Day.
