Army ROTC
As the largest commissioning branch at VMI, Army ROTC prepares cadets to lead soldiers in the world's premier land force.
Through leadership labs, field training exercises, physical fitness, and hands-on learning opportunities, cadets develop the skills and confidence needed to lead in complex and demanding environments.
Army ROTC cadets can explore a wide range of career fields, from Infantry and Armor to Aviation, Cyber, Engineering, Intelligence, and more.
Many cadets also participate in activities such as Ranger Challenge and other field training events that test teamwork, endurance, and leadership under pressure.

The Three-Legged Stool
At VMI, success is built on three equally important pillars:
๐ Academics โ Pursuing excellence in the classroom.
๐๏ธ The Military System โ Developing discipline, leadership, and accountability through daily military life.
๐ช Athletics โ Building physical fitness, resilience, and mental toughness.
Known as the "three-legged stool," these pillars support the VMI experience. If one leg is weak, the stool becomes unstable. Learning to balance all three is one of the keys to success as a rat.
๐ก Incoming rats: Start thinking now about how you'll manage your time and priorities. The habits you build early will help you thrive at VMI.
Follow as we help the Rat Mass of 2027+3 and their families prepare for Matriculation Day.

THE SPARTAN LIFESTYLE
At VMI, rats spend part of their first year with limited access to their phonesโan experience that can seem unimaginable in today's world.
But something interesting happens when the screen goes away.
Conversations become more meaningful. Friendships grow stronger. Focus improves. Shared experiences replace social feeds.
By removing distractions, VMI creates an environment where rats can fully invest in their classmates, their responsibilities, and their personal growth.
That's the Spartan lifestyle.
