Last week, the Lexington Police Department, in collaboration with the Kentucky Horse Park Mounted Police, hosted the 41st Annual National Mounted Police Colloquium. This year’s event brought together 144 riders representing 42 different departments from 14 states and Canada. Riders traveled across the country and as far as from Toronto, Canada to take part in this year’s Colloquium.

This annual event provides an opportunity for law enforcement, search and rescue, mounted park rangers, and volunteers to share ideas, build relationships, and learn new techniques. Throughout the week riders and their partners navigated high stress obstacles and scenarios to refine their tactical skills and teamwork, preparing to more effectively protect and serve the community they represent.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to the Friends of the Lexington Mounted Police, Inc. for sponsoring and helping bring this event together.

Day 2 consisted of numerous more training classes. The video demonstrates a vehicle es**rt that was a part of today’s tactics class. There was expert instruction for those who needed to refresh their skills as well as those who had never done one before.

Officers Horn and Winters had the incredible opportunity to train in Ottawa with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They were able to focus on equitation and drill riding. We are so proud of their hard work!
