Be on the lookout! Lexington Mounted Police will be at Thursday Night Live TODAY Thursday, August 13th between 6pm and 8pm. They will also be riding near the Lexington Opera House in preparation for the Chris Young concert, so keep your eyes open for them!

Please welcome the newest member of the Lexington Mounted Police Unit! Officer Harper has been with the LPD for 8 years and has already served the department as a Collision Reconstructionist, a DOT Inspector, and a Field Training Officer. Officers do not need prior horse experience to join the unit, and Officer Harper is an example of someone who put in the hard work to learn the ways of the unit without having extensive horse experience growing up. He spent lots of time working and training with the unit before applying for a permanent position within it. Officer Harper loves the challenge of learning new things and enjoys the positive community interaction he experiences working with the unit. Lexington is happy to have you on the unit, Officer Harper!

Officers Horn and Winters had the incredible opportunity to train in Ottawa with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They were able to focus on equitation and drill riding. We are so proud of their hard work!

Be sure to indicate names of other riders (in the provided space) that you’d like to be grouped or share a tack stall with. If you are sharing a tack stall, only ONE rider in your tack stall group has to say yes to the tack stall question.

After completing the payment information you will see your total. You must click NEXT again to finish and to receive an email from KHP (Ky.gov) confirming your registration.

If you are registering for both days but bringing two different horses, list all the information for both horses in the required fields. You can write specific notes about each horse in the area where it asks for additional information regarding horse and rider issues that you may want to address at the clinic.

Our officers and horses were able to help with the Kentucky Three Day Event at the Horse Park last week. They were able to work alongside our neighboring mounted units from the Kentucky Horse Park and Louisville Metro.

Aden and Houston have been out at Rupp Arena this week working the high school Sweet 16. They will be out there again tomorrow if you want to say hi!

POLICE LOGISTICAL MIX UP CONFIRMED AHEAD OF NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS

There has been a slight mix up during preparations for mounted crowd control at upcoming New Year celebrations in Scotland, after police sources confirmed the wrong “horses” were delivered earlier this week.

With no time left to source replacements, officers were forced to proceed with the available transport after finally managing to secure specially commissioned custom saddles onto the animals, a process that reportedly took four days to complete and was described internally as “a surprisingly confident start”.

However, operational difficulties soon became apparent when officers realised the next stage of deployment involved working out how to mount the animals, after several attempts using ladders were abandoned when the transport repeatedly walked away the moment an officer reached the top.

Eyewitnesses report officers standing beneath the animals in silence for several minutes, before one was heard quietly asking, “So how are we actually meant to ride these thingys then?”

Despite the setback, police have reassured the public that once officers work out how to actually get on, crowd visibility will be significantly improved, with any disturbances now expected to be visible from several streets away.

Officials have confirmed the animals are calm, fully trained, and responding well to instructions, while admitting that deployment times may be slightly longer than usual.
Police insist plans remain in place for a safe, orderly New Year celebration, adding that members of the public are advised not to feed, pet, or attempt to overtake the mounted unit under any circumstances.
