Next week we are celebrating National PE and Sport Week to recognize the impact of STEAM Academy's PE programs and PE in schools across our country!

We’re excited to share that STEAM Academy is partnering with FullScale (https://www.fullscalelearning.org/) on a national research study focused on understanding how students experience learning in competency-based high schools. This study aims to better understand how students experience learning in these environments and what high-quality competency-based learning looks like in practice.

As part of the study, researchers may conduct classroom observations, invite students to complete a brief survey, and offer opportunities for students to participate in small focus groups.

Consent and Participation
To include your student in this study, we require a signed parent/guardian consent form. Please note that only students with completed forms will be able to participate. I have attached the form to this message for easy viewing.

You can provide your response in one of two ways:

Digital (Preferred): Complete the linked permission form to consent or opt out digitally. Select your ​student's name to opt in or opt out of the study.

Paper Copy: Students will bring home a paper form tomorrow. These can be signed and returned to their first-block teacher.

Note: Some students may also be invited to participate in a focus group; additional permission forms for those sessions will be sent home separately.

The Timeline
Due to the time required for Fayette County’s research approval process, we are working within a very tight turnaround. The research team is scheduled to visit STEAM next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Please submit your digital form or return the paper copy by Sunday, May 3rd. This will allow us to finalize our participant list by Monday morning. We truly appreciate your flexibility and your ongoing support in helping STEAM remain a leader in education—both in Lexington and beyond.
