Happy Fall semester from the UK Violists! 💙🎻

We had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Dwight Pounds for an eye-opening lecture on building a viola library. We learned so much and are feeling inspired as we begin our independent research projects this semester!

Thank you, Dr. Pounds, for sharing your knowledge and passion with us!

Yesterday marked a bittersweet occasion as we sent off four students: three from Tze-Ying Wu’s studio, Maia Smith (BM), Elisabeth Komprs (BMME), and Lila Jones (minor in music performance), and Bailey Hall (BM) from Margie Karp’s studio. Pictured here are Elisabeth and Maia. The amount of growth and the many achievements they have accomplished during their times at UK have been astonishing. We also thank them for their contributions to University of Kentucky School of Music We are so proud of them and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Congratulations to Maia Smith on a beautifully performed senior recital featuring works by J. S. Bach, Lillian Fuchs, and Rebecca Clarke. Maia will pursue a master’s degree at Indiana University under the tutelage of Atar Arad, joining the same musical lineage as Dr. Tze-Ying Wu. We are so proud of her and excited for all of her future endeavors!

Tonight marked the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra viola section’s final concert of the year—an unforgettable evening featuring Brahms Symphony No. 3 and the Brahms Requiem. Playing to a completely sold-out hall made it all the more special. Congratulations to all the performers!
