UPDATE

Stay warm!

Much like everyone across our region, Rockbridge County Public Schools are closely monitoring the forecast, which is currently calling for several inches of snow and freezing conditions over the next week.

While no final decisions have been made yet, we will likely need to close for several days next week for the safety of our students, staff, and families.

We have not seen a winter weather event of this magnitude in quite a few years. Please prepare appropriately at home and stay safe.

The forecasted below-freezing temperatures for next week will also not help with melting and clearing snow from many of our more remote roads, and as you know, there are many in Rockbridge County. This will be an important factor in our decisions about school operations.

If we have to close schools due to inclement weather, it will be a normal closure so that students can enjoy the snow. Only if we specifically announce a “Virtual Learning Day” will students be expected to participate in virtual learning.

In anticipation of the impending snow event, our schools and teachers have been preparing students for virtual learning days so they are ready to learn from home if a Virtual Learning Day is needed.

We will share official closure announcements as soon as decisions are made via:
• Email
• Text/phone alerts
• Our website
• Our social media pages

Please begin planning for possible school closures and stay tuned for updates. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us keep everyone safe.

If you have specific questions, please reach out to your child’s school.
