Sometimes, when a student gets frustrated, I pivot.

Looking from the outside, some may think I am allowing students to give up, but that’s not true. The student may not be ready to move on, or has something else going on behind the scenes. Just because they take a break from a song, skill, etc., does not mean that they are giving up. Often, they just need a brief reset before they’re ready to try again.

Learning how to pause and return to a challenge is an important skill—not just in music, but in life, too.

Students who continue lessons through the summer often return in the fall feeling more confident and less overwhelmed.

Consistency helps skills stay fresh and makes transitions much smoother when schedules get busy again.

🚨 NEW RESOURCE ALERT 🚨

After struggling to find ways to help students learn and retain keyboard, treble, and bass staff letters, I created these reference cards. Students can cut and paste labels onto the keyboard, treble, and bass staves. I can assess what they know, laminate the cards, and then send them home so they never have to wonder if they’re playing the correct note or not!

Parents sometimes think they’re paying for 30 minutes of piano instruction.

What they’re really investing in is a teacher who is constantly adjusting, observing, encouraging, and helping their child build skills one step at a time. Piano lessons teach so much more than just how to play notes from a page. Studies have shown that playing the piano can raise IQ, increase focus and attention, promote a sense of balance and relaxation, boost pattern recognition, enhance spatial organization, sharpen cognitive abilities, improve verbal intelligence and executive function, increase self-esteem, refine motor control skills, and more.

At Morse Music Academy, we focus on building creativity, confidence, and commitment which can be used in the studio and beyond in regular life.

The music matters, but so does the confidence, focus, and perseverance that develop along the way.

Join us for a creative piano experience for motivated, young musicians!

We are hosting a Christmas In July Piano Camp on July 6th - 10th at 1:30-3:30 pm.

During the week students will:
❄️ Learn Christmas songs
🎹 Play piano with friends
🎵 Play in piano games and activities
🥁 Participate in rhythm and music games
⭐ Perform in a short showcase at the end of the week

The camp is intentionally small (only 5 students) so each child receives lots of attention and encouragement.

The newest addition to our studio is actually more for families than for students.

We’ve added an activity cart with plenty of fun things for siblings to do while waiting for their brother or sister during their lesson. It’s right outside our entrance and perfect for families who’d like something fun to do while they wait for the lesson to be over.

Got our new bulletin board hung up in our studio!

Loving having a place to hang our Summer Enjoyment Goal Sheets! Having them here is such a great and motivating reminder for students to complete their enjoyment goals. Not all students participated, but those that did chose a goal based on something that they enjoy about playing piano.
