Igniting the Brilliance in Every Child,
Inspiring Every Husky Through the Power of the Arts! The Visual and Performing Arts Academy at Harrison Elementary is a dynamic, lottery-based magnet school where creativity, collaboration, and academic exc
ellence thrive. We proudly offer a full spectrum of arts programming, including band, dance, music, orchestra, theatre, and visual arts, all led by dedicated, specialized instructors. Through our Arts Integration model, the arts are not just celebrated in performance and production, but are woven into every classroom and content area—enhancing learning, critical thinking, and student engagement across the curriculum. As students grow in their skills and confidence, they take greater ownership of their artistic journey. In 4th and 5th grade, students have the opportunity to select two arts majors from our core disciplines, receiving focused instruction and enrichment in those chosen areas. This allows them to explore their interests more deeply, build advanced skills, and prepare for continued success in the arts. Every Wednesday, students participate in The Clubs at Harrison, choosing from a wide array of arts-based clubs led by local arts organizations, professional artists, and community partners. This unique opportunity empowers students to explore their interests, develop new skills, and connect with the broader arts community. Beyond the classroom, our students experience the arts in action through field trips to national Broadway tours, artist residencies, masterclasses, and other immersive experiences that inspire and elevate their learning. At Harrison Elementary’s Visual and Performing Arts Academy, we believe that the arts are not extracurricular—they’re essential. We’re proud to nurture confident, curious, and creative learners who are inspired to express themselves and engage meaningfully with the world around them. Through our 5th Promise, in addition to Fayette County Public School's Four Promises, we strive to ensure that every 5th Grade Student is able to leave Harrison saying, "I am a Creative and Innovative Contributor!"
The VAPA Academy at Harrison is the sister magnet elementary to the nearby Lexington Middle School, which serves grades 6-8.
