SEPTEMBER 15 MEETING at 6:30 pm in the Piovano Room at the Rockbridge Regional Library

Guest Speaker Sports Photographer Bob Donnan

Since this is our first meeting after Summer break, Chuck Almarez will take just a few minutes to review
some PHOTO BASICS, i.e., • Composition • Shutter Speed • Aperture • ISO
But while the review will cover basics, our guest speaker for the evening will cover them from a PRO PERSPECTIVE.

Bob Donnan is primarily a Sports Photographer living in Southwest Virginia. Over his career, he has covered multiple NCAA Final Fours, NCAA Football Championships, NCAA Soccer Championships, NBA Finals and The Summer Olympics.

You can probably guess that there might be a heavy emphasis on Stop Motion, but that only covers one aspect. How about formatting to capture the subject, proper exposure to adjust for shutter speed and available light, and cropping to highlight the subject? All this while meeting a deadline and avoiding high speed bodies coming right at you!

Here’s Bob’s 2026 World Sports Photography winner in the Basketball category . . .

Remember, your photo assignment for September will be “What I photographed on my summer vacation.” Please select two or three images from your summer photography to share with the club and email JPEG images to Bob Kovach ([email protected]). Bob will format your images for display at our September 15 meeting. Please email your images no later than September 13.

Photo Walk: Capturing Motion at Roaring Run Streamside Trail

When: Saturday, March 29, 2025 beginning at 10:00 am

Roaring Run Trail offers a perfect place to practice the motion techniques taught in the March meeting. Roaring Run is an easy hike up the paved Streamside Trail that runs along a fast-moving stream. At the end of the trail, a natural, thirty foot waterfall cascades down on a large rock formation. This location is an easy walk and offers many beautiful places to practice intentional camera movement and long exposure techniques. This outing is appropriate for participants using DLSR, digital cameras and mobile phones.
