From baseball games and backyard cookouts to outdoor adventures and team outings, summer has been full of opportunities for residents across the UK College of Medicine to connect, recharge, and enjoy time together.
Strong teams are built both inside and outside the clinical setting, and these moments help create the community that makes residency at UK so special.

Northern Kentucky Campus Dean Holly Danneman, MD, recently shared remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Commonwealth Center for Biomedical Excellence in Covington.
Situated along the Northern Kentucky riverfront, this transformative facility will serve as the future home of the UK College of Medicine-Northern Kentucky Campus and a hub for educating and training the next generation of physicians.
This milestone represents more than a new building—it is an investment in the future of health care, medical education, and the communities we serve across the Commonwealth.
We look forward to seeing the impact this space will have for learners, patients, and Kentucky for years to come. 💙

These future physicians are earning more than a white coat—they are earning recognition for the way they care for others. 💙
Congratulations to the students from our Bowling Green (featured in photo), Lexington, Morehead, and Northern Kentucky campuses who were recently inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
This honor recognizes learners who lead with compassion, empathy, integrity, and a commitment to human-centered care. These students remind us that exceptional medicine is not just about clinical knowledge—it is also about listening, connecting, and caring.
Join us in celebrating these future physicians who are making a difference one patient interaction at a time. 👏

It is officially countdown to July 1 — the day a new class of residents begins their journey. 💥🥼
To help ease some nerves, we reached out to a few seasoned UK College of Medicine residents to share advice for incoming doctors. First up is Eric Vogt, a fourth-year family medicine resident with a sports medicine fellowship on the way. 🏀
Eric shares:
“My best piece of advice for a new intern is to be prepared to give yourself some grace. Residency is still very much a time of learning, so no one expects you to know it all. Asking for help is not only acceptable, but it is expected. Allow yourself the space to not have all the answers, and you will be surprised at how much you can grow without even realizing it.”
Eric completed his undergraduate education, medical school, and now residency training at the University of Kentucky. His extended time in Lexington is no accident — it reflects his commitment to continuing to serve the community he has grown to love.

Every stroke case tells a story — and fellows in the Vascular Neurology Fellowship at the UK College of Medicine are training to change outcomes for patients across Kentucky and beyond. 🧠 💙
This month’s Fellowship Spotlight highlights a program built on advanced clinical training, compassionate mentorship, and high-acuity stroke care.
Why fellows choose UK:
• ACGME-accredited program with a 100% board pass rate on the ABPN Vascular Neurology Certification Exam
• Hands-on experience in specialized stroke recovery techniques, including botulinum toxin treatment for post-stroke spasticity
• Advanced neurovascular ultrasound training opportunities preparing fellows for Neurosonology certification
At UK, fellows train alongside multidisciplinary teams including stroke faculty, neurocritical care specialists, APPs, and neuro-interventional experts — all within a culture centered on mentorship, education, and learner well-being.
Serving patients across the Commonwealth means fellows experience an incredible breadth of pathology and patient care! ✨ For the 2026-2027 academic year, the fellowship currently has two open positions.✨

Truly a night to remember as faculty from across the College of Medicine came together to celebrate one another’s achievements, dedication, and heart.
The inaugural FIRE Event recognized several outstanding faculty members while creating space for connection across disciplines. Moments like these are a powerful reminder that while the work is challenging, none of us does it alone. It is our collective commitment to education, research, clinical care, and each other that makes meaningful progress possible.
