Varsity Girls Golf 🐴⛳
OK, golf is a little different.
It’s a little harder to invite you to campus to watch a team when the team doesn’t ever compete on campus. Golf is one of two FCDS sports that takes every show on the road (the other being swimming).
Fortunately, the drive wasn’t too bad for yesterday’s Forsyth Invitational, held at Tanglewood’s Championship Course. Our Furies battled through a warm August afternoon to finish fourth out of a field of fifteen teams. Not a bad day on the links! (Note to self: Never, ever forget the sunscreen again)

Varsity Boys Soccer 🐴⚽️
There’s something amazing about having my camera back in hand and being on the sidelines again; especially on these spectacular summer/fall days!
Our Varsity Boys Soccer team is off and running, and we’d love to see you back on campus cheering them on. Come watch the Furies, reconnect with the sport you once played, and take a stroll down memory lane; or, in this particular circumstance, Taylor Field.

What a weekend for Drew Taylor Hewitt Bradford (‘13)!

Drew Taylor won her first professional World’s Championship title on Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky, at the prestigious World’s Championship Horse Show, one of the most highly regarded events in the American Saddlebred world.

Riding Soul Man, Drew Taylor turned an incredible performance into a milestone moment in her professional career.

Congratulations!

On April 23, I shared that former teacher Karl Haigler and Bob Scarborough (’77) had returned to campus to inspect one of the most iconic spaces in FCDS history: our beloved log cabin, which has stood proudly on the southeast corner of campus for 50 years.

Today, we’re thrilled to share an exciting update: funding has been secured, materials are being ordered, and the wheels are officially in motion to preserve and enhance the cabin for another 50 years and beyond.

Early gifts from Karl Haigler, Bob (’77) and Kathy Hancock Scarborough (’77), Paul Lowrey (’77), and Amy Rogers Herman (’77) helped get the project moving. Additional generosity from members of the Class of 1977, highlighted in today’s post, has now made it possible for the preservation work to be completed, weather permitting, by November.

A tremendous thank-you to the Log Cabin Brigade for their decades-long commitment to protecting this special piece of FCDS history. Their dedication and generosity will ensure that a structure that has stood the test of time continues to be part of the FCDS story.

This shows where the highest concentrations of FCDS alums live, but it only tells part of the story. There are thousands of Furies scattered across the country and around the world, and keeping up with all your comings and goings isn’t always easy!

Our very own Mike Martin invited alum Joshua Howard (’22) to speak with our eighth graders yesterday about life beyond FCDS and the importance of being flexible, staying open to new opportunities, and embracing the unexpected.
Joshua shared his own journey since leaving Forsyth, offering our students a firsthand look at how being willing to adapt and explore new possibilities can shape the path ahead.
Today, Joshua is a Fellow & Incoming Juris Doctor Candidate at Penn Carey Law and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with honors in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Business.
A great reminder for our eighth graders: You don’t have to have it all figured out. Be curious, be flexible, and be open to where the journey takes you.

On June 25th, I posted pictures of our upper school renovation in progress, and now it’s time to check out the finished product! (Once again spaces are identified by their current occupant, while others are labeled as I remember them most fondly)
The transformation this summer has been nothing short of amazing.
A huge thank-you to everyone who worked so hard to make this happen, and to the generous donors who made our Modern Classroom initiative possible. Your support has helped transform the upper school experience.
