LISD Focus on the Future

LISD Focus on the Future FOF prepares young adults with an intellectual disability for a meaningful life after high school. Email [email protected].

Focus on the Future provides Transition Services to it's 18+ population to facilitate a seamless transition to life after high school by providing multiple opportunities to learn and use the skills necessary to function as independently as possible. FOF covers a wide continuum of student needs and services to address and work collaboratively toward post-secondary outcomes. Based on individual inte

rests and choices, students will participate in a variety of activities so that the last day of school is identical to the first day of the rest of their lives. Starfish Creations provides experiences for FOF students to develop the skills necessary for paid employment:
Hospitality/Food Service: Starfish Cafe, Starfish Snack Shack
Office Skills: Starfish Supplies, Shredding, and other pre-vocational tasks
Soft Skills: All the Starfish business models provide Focus on the Future and High School students across the district the opportunity to learn how to communicate in a workplace, initiating and completing tasks, asking for more work or clarification on instructions, efficiency, and time management. Starfish is a safe place to develop these skills in a supportive environment before the students enter the world of work. Do you think you might have an employment opportunity for one of our FOF students? Let us help you find a student with the skills you are looking for to fulfill your need!

We had a special guest today! Angie is a master crafter and taught us how to make flower frogs. Finished products next week after they are dry, painted, and sealed.
Do you have a special talent you’d like to share? We love having volunteers who can teach a fun activity that could turn into a hobby for our young adults to keep busy when they’re no longer in school. We can even supply all the materials!

FOF wants to give a BIG shout out to Officer DelaCruz with The Colony Police Department and to Assistant Fire Marshall
Johnathan Perales and Fire Investigator and Fire inspector Anthony Scott at The Colony Fire Department for doing safety training with our amazing students! Thanks to you we are better prepared to act in an emergency! And, a special thank you to The Nor'Kirk Presbyterian Church for graciously allowing us to use their meeting space for our event. We truly appreciate their generosity in opening their doors to our group.

If you have garden stones, rocks, or other decorative items you would like to donate; our young adults are happy to pick up or help unload. We are working to make our garden a nice space for everyone to enjoy! We will use these stones and rocks to create pathways, a rock garden, and flower beds.

Thank you to the wonderful community member who has donated to us already!
