On , YWCA is uplifting the many vibrant communities whose culture, traditions, and continued impact are too often left out of the story of our country. Today, we honor their legacy and acknowledge that we remain on Indigenous land.

We are joining our YWCA sisters across the nation and the globe today, , to call attention to the problem of child marriage – which significantly increases the risk of experiencing domestic violence and decreases access to education and healthcare - here in the United States.
Our state elected leaders can stop this practice in its tracks: Today, 17 states prohibit marriage under the age of 18 without exceptions for parental permission, pregnancy, or court approval. 17 is not enough. We can and must do better for our nation’s girls.

YWCA Customer Service leaders recently attended Maine’s 4th Annual Digital Opportunity Workshop, joining practitioners and partners from across the state to share ideas, learn from experts, and strengthen efforts to expand digital access and inclusion.

As part of the team behind our new Connectivity Hub, we’re excited to bring new knowledge and connections back to our community! From exploring Maine’s Digital Resilience program to discussing future digital equity initiatives, the day reinforced the importance of helping everyone access the technology, resources, and skills they need to connect, learn, and thrive.

A big thank-you to the workshop organizers and our Connectivity Hub funders for supporting this important work!

Creating a little autumn magic in the Invention Room!

Today, our Invention Room kiddos turned fresh apples into homemade applesauce! From preparing the apples to watching them transform, this hands-on activity was a delicious way to explore science, cooking, creativity, and a little bit of teamwork.

Learning is always more fun when you can taste the results!

What happens when you give children a place to learn, play and grow?

You give them a strong start.

Every day at YWCA Central Maine, children learn through play, build friendships, explore new ideas and develop the skills they need for their next chapter.

And behind every child is a family working hard to build a future.

That’s why access to quality, affordable child care matters to our entire community.

We loved welcoming members of the Androscoggin Bank team to YWCA Central Maine to see our work up close, meet some of the people who make it all happen, and talk about what’s possible for the future of the YWCA.

We’re incredibly grateful for Androscoggin Bank’s generous support and confidence in our vision. Their partnership is helping us move closer to a future where more children, families, women, and community members can connect, learn, thrive—and feel that the YWCA is a place for them.

Thank you, Androscoggin Bank, for believing in what’s possible and investing in the future of our community. We’re grateful to have you alongside us.
