The Phoenix Rises
Students in 8th-grade U.S. History at Jenifer Middle School took time to remember and reflect on September 11, 2001, through a meaningful remembrance activity.
Students learned about the events of 9/11, participated in thoughtful discussions, and reflected on how we can honor those affected by choosing to be compassionate, responsible, and good citizens.
As part of the activity, each student decorated a feather as a symbol of remembrance, respect, and perseverance. Students could create a feather honoring those affected by 9/11 or use it to share a personal experience of overcoming adversity or helping someone through a difficult time.
Through this activity, students explored the idea of resilience and the reminder that while we cannot always control the difficult moments we face, we can choose how we respond to them.
We remember. We persevere. We rise.
