Children's House Montessori School The Montessori Method of education is named after Dr. Maria Montessori who developed the curriculum over 100 years ago.

We are a Montessori School offering Preschool through 6th grade as well as Before Care and After Care Along with an infant and toddler program at our Primary Community location. The Montessori classroom is designed to be interesting and inviting to a child, with materials supporting their academic goals as well as social interests. The children are given individual lessons with the materials by a certified teacher. The child is then encouraged to choose some activities on their own. This independence develops responsibility, self-reliance and self-esteem. The children are encouraged to work as a community to care for each other and their classroom. The school truly becomes their home away from home, as Dr. Maria Montessori called it “Casa dei Bambini” or Children’s House.

We've been hard at work preparing the school for the new year! We are grateful for this time to able to rejuvenate, refresh and beautify the school. Oh, and Doc has a fresh groom, he's ready for the first day! We will welcome students back on Wednesday the 19th and we are so excited!

CHMS Summer Camp ended with one of the most popular weeks!!! Fire Safety Week! We are grateful to our first responders for taking the time to teach us about their important work and how to stay safe in an emergency. Thank you Lewiston Fire Department for your time! While we do enjoy playing with fire engines and emergency themed toys, we also spend the week learning about safety in our homes and out in the community. All important life skills!
And, no end of summer celebration would be complete without a visit from We All Scream Ice Cream ! Thank you for the delicious treats!

History Week at CHMS Summer Camp is truly special because of our community volunteers! We loved having a special presentation from "Seargent Ordway" and learning about the Corps of Discovery! The Nez Perce County Museum is an incredible resource! The elementary campers also enjoyed a tour of the Lewiston Tribune with Matt Baney ! The best part was seeing the press in action and getting a newspaper hot off the press! Campers also had fun with knights and castles and pirates, dinosaurs and ancient Egypt. When learning is hands on, engaging and interactive we never see it as a chore, but rather an adventure!

LEGO Week with our friends Mr. Morgan and Evelyn was truly so special! We are so fortunate to learn with them! We create, challenge, design and build with enthusiasm and in a space where making mistakes is encouraged! It is incredible what our campers could build with guidance and understanding. It was inspiring to see their creativity and problem solving shine!

CHMS Summer Camp is always an adventure! Outdoor Week certainly was! We learned about local biomes, animals and plants. We learned outdoor skills such as hiking, measuring trees, identifying plants wnd insects and animals as well as safety for us and wildlife. We had a lot of fun learning about fishing, too! Did you know you can check out fishing gear from the Lewiston City Library !

Imagination Week at CHMS Summer Camp was filled with stories of heros, adventures, fantastical places and characters! We spent the week learning about the parts of a story and the hero's journey. We focused our imaginative quests on myths, Harry Potter and Star Wars! As always we had fun crafting, creating, playing and learning!
