Good morning!
The Spring Programming Contest happened this past Saturday in Hildreth Mirza Hall at Bucknell University. 11 teams of students solved both programming and logic problems in a variety of programming languages. 3 of those teams visited us from Bloomsburg University along with their coach Bob Montante. The theme this year was Avatar, The Way of Water and teams won a mini-prize for each problem they solved that matched the theme. The rules stated that teams must wear their prize no matter how unwearable it was (edible prizes were allowed to be worn internally).
There were 3 teams playing in the Novice division on programming and logic problems. That was a close competition with all 3 teams solving 4 of the 7 problems. A Bloomsburg team and a Bucknell team of Jonas Scott, Nathan Casara, and Graham Billington came in 2nd place in 515 minutes and 435 minutes respectively. The winning team, Bucknell students Lyman Brackett, Jack Beneigh, and Casey King solved 4 problems in only 347 minutes.
There were 8 teams playing in the Expert division on purely programming problems. 5 of the teams (Bucknell's Nga Vu, Minh Phuong Cao, Linh Nguyen, and Anh Tran, An Ngo, Hung Ngo, and Hung Pham, Aiden Ren, Gavin Moore, and 2 Bloomsburg teams) solved 1 problem. The winning team, Bucknell students Tsugunobu Miyaki, Ramon Ascunsion Batista, and Wera Kyaw Kyaw solved 2 problems.
Thank you to Rajesh Kumar for co-coordinating this event with me. Also thank you to Josh Stough, Xiannong Meng, and Lily Romano, and Olivia Franken for their help during the contest. And thank you to the Computer Science Department and to BSG for funding this event.
