LWVLA BOOK CLUB

The League Book Club is holding a SUMMER meeting - Thursday, June 25 @ 4pm at the Public Library for Union County in Lewisburg.

We will read historical fiction for a change. The selection is The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali. It is a timely look into some of the history and culture of Iran with a focus on women's rights.

I am hoping you will join me. As always, there is no need to read the book to join in our discussion. In future reminders I will include a summary or review that will inform those who do not read the book but want to join.

LWVLA members gathered at Brasserie Louis on May 12 to celebrate a productive year — combining great fellowship with important business, from electing officers and adopting a budget to setting our 2026–27 program of work. Nancy Neuman delivered a moving and inspiring talk about her history with the Lewisburg League and her tenure as President of the League of Women Voters of the United States. Congratulations to our award winners and thanks to the Membership Committee for organizing a wonderful evening!

Congratulations to Linda Harris, recipient of the 2026 Jill Reynolds Award — honoring a League member whose tireless dedication makes all the difference.
What do you do when an award winner is not able to be there for the announcement of the award? Well, you swear everyone to secrecy, even have them practice a "cover story," then schedule a lunch where Linda doesn't know that she is the guest of honor. There were a few glitches in the process, but... Surprised? Absolutely!

The Judy Anderson Community Service Award honors those who make Union County a better place to live. This year, we proudly recognize Janice Butler— a tireless social justice advocate whose dedication has helped make Lewisburg and our surrounding communities more welcoming, inclusive, and compassionate. Thank you, Janice, for all you do!

It is always a joy to watch Nancy Neuman congratulate the recipient of the LWVLA merit scholarship award bearing her name. The 2026 award winner, Gibson O'Mealy, is a student at Lewisburg High School. Shown here with Nancy Neuman and with Helen Nunn, of the League's Nancy Neuman Award Committee.
