Eight Spot Lowe Technology Center Health Science students recently passed the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam, administered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). A certified medical assistant dual enrollment program with TCAT-Pulaski is offered at Spot Lowe and has been taught by Mary Ann Haynes for the past two years.

A Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) bridges the gap between patient care and clinic operations. This credential qualifies one to work in hospitals, private practices, and urgent care facilities performing both clinical procedures and administrative duties. Clinical duties performed may include: measure and record vital signs, prepare exam rooms, assist with minor medical procedures, and sterilize equipment; perform phlebotomy, run EKGs, and conduct basic point-of-care testing. Welcoming patients, arranging referrals, processing medical insurance claims, and updating patient files are some of the administrative tasks that a CCMA may do on a daily basis.

Congratulations to the following students pictured (back row, L-R) Torie Adams; Yami De La Paz; Samantha Dunnivant; Rylynn Haase; Mya Corsetti; Olivia Baker; Jenny Jett, and Fisher Wiles. Pictured with the students are health science teachers Mrs. Lynda Skillington (far left); Ms. Mary Ann Haynes (right); and Mr. Frank Musgrave, CTE Director.

He offered students a firsthand look at the jump from high school to college, shared tips on which classes to prioritize, and highlighted why internships are a game-changer for future engineers.
