Congratulations to Clark Milton, D.O. (Class of 1982)! 🎉

We are proud to celebrate WVSOM alumnus Clark Milton, D.O., who was recently installed as President of the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI) Board of Directors.

A dedicated physician, educator, and leader, Dr. Milton has spent decades serving patients and helping train the next generation of osteopathic physicians. His appointment to this national leadership role is a testament to his commitment to osteopathic medicine and the profession he has championed throughout his career.

✨ From studying abroad in Italy and England, to working in the U.K. Parliament and helping plan luxury weddings, Emily Sperber, D.O., Class of 2026, followed a unique path to medicine. Guided by a passion for advocacy, communication and helping others through life’s most challenging moments, she found her calling in psychiatry and is now completing her residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Emily’s journey is a powerful reminder that every experience adds depth, perspective and purpose. 💚

🧠🎉 A special congratulations to a remarkable WVSOM family legacy!

WVSOM Class of 2026 graduate Brian Hall, D.O., matched into neurological surgery, one of the most competitive specialties in medicine. Brian’s journey comes full circle, as he grew up playing on WVSOM’s parade field while his father, Benjamen Hall, D.O. (Class of 2013), was a student here.

From a childhood fascination with anatomy to a future career in neurosurgery, Brian’s story is one of passion, perseverance and inspiration. We are proud to celebrate both Drs. Hall as members of the WVSOM alumni family! 👏🏻

We are proud to see Abundance Hunt, D.O., Class of 2024, representing osteopathic medicine on a national stage as a presenter at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference & Exhibition in San Diego. Sharing research and scholarly work with pediatricians from across the country is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to her dedication, hard work, and passion for advancing pediatric care.

Reflecting on this milestone, Dr. Hunt expressed gratitude for the opportunity to present a project she has poured “a lot of time and heart into,” while recognizing the mentors, co-residents, and supporters who helped make the experience possible.

🩺✨ WVSOM Alumni Spotlight: Brittanie West, D.O., Class of 2015✨🩺

As a family medicine physician, educator and innovator, Dr. Brittanie West is demonstrating how artificial intelligence can enhance patient care while strengthening the human side of medicine. 🤖💚

At WVU Medicine United Hospital Center, Dr. West uses AI to support precision medicine, improve medication safety and help physicians make more personalized treatment decisions. She also leverages AI-powered learning tools and virtual patient simulations to train resident physicians in one of medicine’s most important skills: compassionate communication. 🎓💡

With a passion for preparing future physicians for a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, Dr. West believes that innovation is more than an opportunity...it’s a responsibility. 🌟

Today, we were delighted to welcome Derrick Wagoner, D.O., Class of 2013, his wife Lindsey, and their five children, Ellie, Charlotte, Rachelle, Sienna, and Joseph, back to campus!

This visit was especially meaningful as it marked Derrick’s first return to WVSOM since graduating in 2013. While passing through Lewisburg on their way to celebrate his mother’s 60th birthday at the beautiful New River Gorge, the Wagoner family took time to reconnect with the place where his osteopathic journey began.

One of the highlights of their visit was a special stop in the Anatomy Lab, where Derrick and Lindsey had the opportunity to reconnect with Bobbi Morgan. Lindsey worked with Bobbi in the Anatomy Lab for a year while Derrick was a student, making the visit a wonderful trip down memory lane for their family. It was also a heartwarming reunion for Bobbi, who knew Ellie when she was just a baby and was delighted to see her again all these years later.

Thank you, Derrick and Lindsey, for sharing part of your family adventure with us. It was a joy to welcome you back to campus and see the next generation of Wagoners exploring the halls of WVSOM! 💚

One grant. One WVSOM alumnus. One lasting legacy.

Dr. Steve Richman, WVSOM Class of 1979, understood the power of giving back. Through the Hometown Doctor Fund, his generosity helped support future WVSOM alumni like Dr. Seth Graham, Class of 2023.

It’s a powerful example of how one WVSOM alumnus can pay it forward, creating a ripple effect that reaches far beyond one student and strengthens an entire community. Thank you, Dr. Richman and Congratulations, Dr. Graham.

One grant. One doctor. An entire community strengthened.

Last night, the Hinton Area Foundation Board hosted a pre-meeting social to see donor dollars in action and hear from Dr. Seth Graham, a recipient of the Steve Richman “Hometown Doctor” Pass Through Fund.

Seth was already serving others as a pharmacist when he decided to pursue his dream of becoming a physician. With support from the Hometown Doctor Fund, he attended the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg and is now a family practitioner serving right here in Summers County.

Janet Hinton of WVSOM, who helped connect Seth, the medical school and HAF, joined us for the evening. She recalled assuring HAF that Seth was the right candidate—and time has certainly proven her right.

Seth shared how grateful he remains for the grant, which eased the financial burden on his young family while he pursued medical school. But the impact of that investment extends far beyond one student or one family. Because Seth returned home to practice, our entire community gained a dedicated physician who understands the people and the place he serves.

That is donor impact in action: one generous investment helping someone achieve a dream—and strengthening healthcare for an entire community.

The Hometown Doctor Fund was created to help qualified local students attend WVSOM while encouraging future physicians who grew up here to return and provide medical care in our area. Seth’s story is a powerful example of that vision fulfilled.
