👶🎡 Future Alumni Alert! 🎡👶

We loved seeing Gage Powell, D.O., Class of 2022, stop by the WVSOM booth at the State Fair of West Virginia with his 2-month-old daughter, Bronwyn! He made sure she had her photo taken at our “Future WVSOM Alumni” photo spot, proving it’s never too early to start showing WVSOM pride. 💚

🎉 Building Connections in the Northern Region! 🎉

On Thursday, August 6, the WVSOM Alumni Association proudly hosted its first Northern Region Alumni Network Gathering at Bistro 303 in Weirton, West Virginia. ✨ A very special return to WVSOM!

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming James Kelly, D.O., ‘86, and his son, Ryan, to campus. Remarkably, this was Dr. Kelly’s first visit back to WVSOM since graduating 40 years ago!

Dr. Kelly marveled at how much the campus has grown and progressed over the decades while still maintaining the heart of WVSOM’s mission. During his visit, he enjoyed interacting with current students and reminiscing about the “good old days” of WVSOM in the 1980s with fellow alumnus Dwight Bundy, D.O., ‘84.

Dr. Kelly’s career has been marked by a number of historic achievements. He was the first D.O. accepted into Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland/Maryland General Hospital, the first D.O. accepted into the Psychiatry Residency Program at Georgetown University Medical Center, and the first D.O. accepted into the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine/The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

We are proud to celebrate alumni like Dr. Kelly, whose accomplishments have helped pave the way for future generations of osteopathic physicians. Thank you, Dr. Kelly and Ryan, for visiting your alma mater and sharing in the enduring spirit of the WVSOM family! 👏🏻💚

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Danish Mirza, D.O., ’15, and his wife, Razya, to the WVSOM campus. While Dr. Mirza graduated in 2015, he was unfortunately unable to attend commencement after being stuck in Houston during a hurricane. This visit marked his first return to campus since 2013, and Razya’s very first opportunity to see WVSOM.

During their tour, they were amazed by how much the campus has grown and expanded over the past 13 years. From new facilities to enhanced learning spaces, it was wonderful to share how WVSOM continues to evolve while staying true to its mission and community spirit.

Because Dr. Mirza and Razya visited on a Saturday, we’d also like to remind our alumni that weekend campus tours are available! If weekdays don’t fit your schedule, our Alumni Relations team would be happy to arrange a tour and help you reconnect with your alma mater.

Thinking about a return visit? We’d love to welcome you back home to WVSOM! 💚

📚❤️ Happy National Book Lovers Day! ❤️📚

Today, we’re celebrating two talented WVSOM alumnae authors who recently joined us at our Alumni Reception in Weirton and have used their creativity to make a difference through storytelling.

📖 Maria Tranto, D.O., ‘00, co-authored “Judy’s True Beauty,” an inspiring children’s book about kindness, courage, and compassion. When Judy meets a girl who lost her hair during cancer treatment, she makes the selfless decision to donate her own hair, discovering that true beauty comes from helping others. Proceeds from the book benefit charities supporting children with hair loss and cancer. “Judy’s True Beauty” is available on Amazon.

📖 Jesamyn Marshall, D.O, ‘11, is the author of “1-800-Nappie-Poo,” a heartfelt story about a sleep-deprived mother learning to navigate the challenges of caring for her constantly crying, fussy newborn while discovering strength and resilience along the way. Although the book is currently out of print, we’re proud to recognize Dr. Marshall’s contribution as a published author.

We know these aren’t the only WVSOM alumni authors out there! 📚

👇 Have you written a book, contributed to one, or know a classmate who has? Let us know in the comments! We’d love to highlight more WVSOM alumni authors and share their stories with our alumni community.
