🧠 ABA TIP: Sometimes the best prompt is... waiting

Your child is trying to open something.
Put on their shoes.
Answer a question.
Find what they need.

And every part of you wants to jump in and HELP. 😂

Try waiting just a few extra seconds first.
That little pause gives your child an opportunity to process, problem-solve, communicate or complete the task independently.

If they still need help? Absolutely help them.

But sometimes we don't realize how quickly we're doing things FOR our kids that they're beginning to learn to do themselves.

💜 Try the 5-second pause today. You may be surprised what happens.

I’ve had several service providers and advocacy organizations reach out asking about another adult speed dating event and you KNOW The Goofy Gators is always down to make something fun happen!
Give me the people and I’ll do the rest — find the spot, plan the event, organize the matches and make it happen. 💕

So I’m officially putting out some feelers…

💜 MYTH: ABA is all about sitting at a table.

💜 FACT: Great ABA happens everywhere.

Therapy may take place while...

⚽ Playing outside
🎨 Making art
🍎 Preparing a snack
🧸 Playing with toys
📚 Reading books
🛒 Going into the community

The goal isn't to teach skills only during therapy.
The goal is to help children use those skills in everyday life.
Learning happens best when it's meaningful, motivating, and fun.

🧠 DID YOU KNOW?

Tantrums and meltdowns are not the same thing.

A tantrum often happens when a child wants something or is frustrated.

A meltdown happens when a child becomes overwhelmed and loses the ability to cope.

Knowing the difference helps us respond with understanding instead of frustration.

During a meltdown, children often need:
💜 A calm environment
💜 Reduced demands
💜 Patience
💜 Support—not punishment

Every behavior has a purpose, and understanding that purpose helps us better support our children.

🌟 PARENT TIP

Want to encourage more independence?

Wait five more seconds.

When we immediately step in to help, children don't always have the opportunity to problem-solve on their own.

Next time your child is working on something...

🧩 Putting on shoes
🧩 Opening a snack
🧩 Asking for help
🧩 Cleaning up toys

Pause...

Count to five before jumping in.

Sometimes those extra few seconds are all they need to be successful.

Small moments of independence build lifelong confidence.
