Baby steps to reading.

My students worked on this chart combing consonants with vowels. I remember doing this as a kid when I went to Korean School as a kid, too!

This is where reading begins! 📚

This past Saturday at Korean School, we celebrated Korean Arbor Day (식목일) in my class which is today (April 5).

I hauled some dirt from home and brought seeds for the kids to share the experience of planting. They learned the different parts of a plant as well.

•열매 fruit still on the plant
•꽃 flower
•잎 leaf
•줄기 stem
•뿌리 roots

The warm weather is starting to creep upon us and I am so excited to set up our first and last garden in our yard. Who’s ready to get their vegetable garden started? 🙋🏻‍♀️

First concert together is in the books! So happy that I was able to take Joowon out to see my amazing childhood friend, Elena Urioste]!

For a child who just turned 8 in December, he did really well sitting for an hour and half listening to the orchestra play.

It was unfortunate, however, that we couldn’t sit right up in front. I had booked seats in the front row but little man said he needed to p*e and we were told there would be no intermission. 😱 So we ran to the bathroom but came back a minute or 2 after the starting time. We ended up sitting behind a couple and little Joowon couldn’t really see. 😭

It was amazing to see Elena though. The last time I saw her perform live was in elementary school. I remember thinking “Wow, she is amazing” and she still is!

Thank you to Elena Urioste] for letting me know you’d be playing in town! We had a great time! 💜

Now, it’s time for me to go watch the melodrama, Do You Like Brahms? 🙈😂

A rare picture of our entire little family taken in Savannah, Georgia.

It still amazes me that we have 3 kids. Actually, no. I’m still amazed that we have twins. 😂 I’ve always wanted 3 kids but my husband was okay with just having Joowon. God had other plans and I’m glad we have our 3 little rugrats to keep us busy. Life would be a little bland without the twins. 🤣

Guess who’s teaching this hyperactive child this spring semester for Korean School? 🤣

It was a little bit difficult teaching because Sophia kept coming up to me during class to tell me that she loves me. 🙈😂

It’ll be an interesting semester.

Hi Friends! I’m a little bit late posting here but Happy Lunar New Year!

On the blog for the last week, ✌️ blog posts have gone up! One is on the history of budae jjigae (부대찌개, Army Base Soup) and the other one is about Lunar New Year, a day we get to eat this delicious rice cake soup called Ddukgook (떡국).

With Korean School starting up real soon again, I’m not sure how active I will be on my blog. I’m sure I’ll continue to post in stories and in my feed on what’s going on over here though.

As some of you know, my family was away on vacation to Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina. It was a great escape from daily routine but I was sad to have gone down when Florida was in its coldest week this season. 🤣

There’s anything I learned from this trip, it’s that I belong in Florida. 😂 I need to be where the heat is. Even though it was cold while I was there, there was a day where I could feel some Florida heat.

This trip also taught me that my children are not ready to visit Korea yet. 😂 My dad told me that there has been lots of people reporting neighbors that live above them for the noise they make… meaning stomping noises. My kids run and jump and I don’t see them learning to walk calmly until they’re a little older. This makes me sad but something I can’t control. 😭

Anyway, would all of you be interested in me posting pictures and videos of our trip to Disney??

Today, I talk about the founder of Gojoseon (ancient Korea), son of a god and a bear. 🐻

Yup, I said bear. 😂 Come visit the blog to hear the myth of father Dangun.

It’s been a while since we went to Paris Baguette but we got the chance to have a sweet treat on Wednesday!

I had an appointment to get a new jeogori so we made sure to stop by and get some pastries located on the first floor of the building. Honestly, if my family lived in the city, I’d probably be walking to a bakery every day to get my carbs. 😂 Something that I did when I lived in Seoul!

It was my first time eating mochi donuts in the US. These were super oily and frankly, disappointing. I can still remember the first mochi donut I ate in Korea and it was amazing! I need to a find a “real” mochi donut bakery. 🥺

Have you ever tried mochi donuts before?

Today on the blog, I talk about the Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

This fortress was damaged pretty badly during the Japanese invasion but largely due to the Korean War. Without this Uigwe that was published a year after King Jeongjo’s death in 1801, this fortress wouldn’t have been restored to its former glory.

I talked to my dad about this fortress. He asked me not to ask him much about the historical stuff in Korea because he is unsure himself. The Korean teachers I work with too have told me that it’s through Korean School that they learn about the history of Korea. 🤣 I certainly don’t remember a lot of US history either. I guess my interests were not there at the time though I remember my 8th grade history teacher and the subjects he taught. He was super passionate and I learned a tremendous amount from him.

Anyway, I hope that you find some interesting facts about this fortress. I do enjoy learning about all the historical things of Korea and hopefully, like my 8th grade teacher, you can feel the passion I put into my blog posts.

The palace maid who declined King Jeongjo twice. ✌️😱

Seong Deuk-im was her birth name and became King Jeongjo’s beloved concubine. Unfortunately, her life with is short lived. Visit the blog to read about her life with him and some cool historical stuff like her actual handwriting! 😱😍
