Each year South Plains College Biology department captures, tags, and releases monarch butterflies as they make their annual fall migration. This year, Mark Lee led this initiative with his Zoology class. Monarchs roost in pines as they migrate making the front lawn of the college an excellent spot for this activity on Thursday afternoon. οΏΌEach monarch captured becomes a data point that is shared through Monarch Watch to show where these butterflies, are going and how they get there. These tags help us understand monarch pathways, mortality along their journey, and can be used to develop initiatives to increase successful migrations
