On this Indigenous Peoples Day, we give thanks to our Lord for the strength of our people.

πŸ‚ OCTOBER THOUGHTS: A SEASON FOR FORGIVENESS 🍁

October reminds us that another year is quickly passing, and the holiday season will soon be upon us.

Before we gather with family and friends for Thanksgiving and Christmas, perhaps we should take a moment to examine our hearts.

Are we carrying hurt, anger, bitterness, or resentment toward someone? Are there relationships that have been strained for months, perhaps even years?

As Christians, we're reminded that forgiveness is not always easy, but it is something God asks of us.

πŸ™ SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT FORGIVING...

When we genuinely forgive someone, we make a conscious decision to release the anger, bitterness, and resentment we've been carrying. We choose not to seek revenge, but instead turn the situation over to God.

Romans 12:19 reminds us that vengeance belongs to the Lord.

❀️ Forgiveness does not mean forgetting.

Forgiving someone doesn't erase what happened, excuse their actions, or mean the hurt wasn't real. We can forgive while still remembering the lessons we've learned.

And just as importantly, forgiveness does not always mean reconciliation.

We can forgive someone, pray for them, and wish them well without necessarily restoring the relationship to what it once was. Trust takes time to rebuild, and sometimes healthy boundaries are necessary.

Forgiveness is about releasing the hurt, not necessarily restoring the relationship.

πŸ™ FORGIVENESS IS ALSO FOR OUR OWN PEACE.

Holding onto bitterness and resentment can become a heavy burden, affecting our happiness, our relationships, and our walk with the Lord.

Forgiveness doesn't always happen overnight. Sometimes it takes prayer, patience, and a daily decision to place those feelings in God's hands.

Colossians 3:13 reminds us:

"Forgive as the Lord forgave you."

Forgiveness is more than just a word. If we say we forgive someone, we should sincerely strive to live out that decision rather than continuing to hold onto bitterness or thoughts of revenge.

🍁 AS WE ENTER THIS HOLIDAY SEASON...

Perhaps this October is a good time to reflect on what we've been carrying in our hearts.

Maybe there's someone we need to forgive. Maybe there's a painful memory we've allowed to steal our peace. Or perhaps there's a situation we need to finally turn over to God.

We cannot change yesterday, but with God's help, we can choose how we move forward tomorrow.

πŸ™ A THOUGHT TO LEAVE YOU WITH:

As we prepare for the holidays and the close of another year, ask yourself:

"Is there someone I need to forgiveβ€”not because they deserve it, but because I deserve to move forward in peace with God?"

May this season bring healing to wounded hearts, peace to troubled minds, and the strength to forgive as Christ has forgiven us.
