Several years ago students in the Forrest Center's Digital Media Production program (formerly TV/Video Production) were given the opportunity to produce "Southern Maryland Calendar" PSAs for local radio station WPTX. At this time, all but one of the voices on those PSAs are all alumni. That will change once the station sends over the first batch of new PSAs for this school year and a new group of students begin producing them. If you have a moment, please listen to WPTX to support the hard work of our alumni. If you still live in Southern Maryland, you can tune in the station at 100.7 FM or 1690 AM. If you aren't currently in Southern Maryland, you can check out WPTX online through their website. If you take a listen to the station and happen to hear a PSA with the one "non-alumni" voice, feel free to leave a comment if you think you know who it is.

100.7 FM & 1690 WPTX is a radio station located in Mechanicsville, MD, in the the United States. The station broadcasts on 1690 AM, and is popularly known as WPTX Radio. The station is owned by Somar Communications and offers a Adult Standard format.

While our alumni are far too young to participate in this contest, some of you might have family, neighbors or coworkers who would be old enough. This seems like a really great idea by NPR to capture the stories and voices of the older generations. If you know someone who is 65 or older with a story to tell, please share this article with them and offer them some tips and encouragement.

This fall, we're asking seniors to send us their stories in audio form. Our judges will pick the best ones and air them on NPR.
