Connelly's Operation Autograph See what a well written letter can accomplish...

English III - Leonard HS, Leonard, TX. Thanks!!!

For over 20 years (including 17 at Leonard HS), students in Coach Connelly's various English classes have spent a week early in the school year composing a business letter correctly, then submitting an autograph request to a professional athlete, and more recently, other celebrities as well. This group will eventually showcase the hundreds of responses the students, as well as Coach Connelly himself, have received. I do want to give a shout-out to the StarTiger autograph community (www.startiger.com), which provided an educator's subscription to help us along, and our LISD administration, which has been 100% supportive of our endeavors.

We've had a couple more returns to sender, but a few actually have shown up this week!

Pavlos Petrou - a former athlete and football coach in Louisiana who now runs a restaurant in New Orleans. He is the father of one of the members of the rap duo $uicideboy$.

David Naughton - '70s hitmaker ("Makin' It"), star of "An American Werewolf In London and multiple Dr. Pepper commercials.

Bill "Spaceman" Lee, eccentric and amazing former MLB pitcher

Stormin' Gorman Thomas, whose home run power led the Brewers to the 1982 World Series. He now owns a BBQ sauce company.

We had FOUR of these in our box today...the mean, ol' "Return to Sender," as Elvis used to sing about. They could have moved, changed agencies, teams or record labels, retired, who knows...

However, our students are able to look up another address and resend if they choose.

We'll keep the faith and keep looking for the good stuff, as Elvis would say, in the "US Male."

We thought retirement would slow us down, but here goes year #28 of our autograph assignment! Now I'm just an old substitute teacher, but we had time to squeeze it in! Will update as the year progresses. Thanks for checking in on us!

Two more successful returns today...YouTube pranksters the Ireland Brothers and voice actor/video game character Paul Mercier. Nice notes for the kids from each of them. We also sent two back out this week that had been returned for bad addresses. Fingers crossed!

Okay, I'm running a bit behind here, but here's a picture of the stack that departed on August 22, along with the two we have gotten back. There have been several bad addresses returned, so hopefully the kids will dig up a fresh address so we can resend.

It's been six weeks, but we finally get to post something! We've had a ton of RTS, and we've resent some of those.
Today you'll see Rory Nieto, the accordion player and one of the founding members of La Maquinaria Nortena. One of our students painted a picture of him, and he signed it! He also sent a signed CD and a couple of notes.
This morning we received one from Rob Wiethoff, who portrayed John Marston in the 2010 video game Red Dead Redemption and its sequels.
The students are pretty excited about these!
