What a sweet and joyful time seeing so many new and familiar smiling faces at our preschool & Grammar School play date this morning! This is the place where some lifelong friendships are sparked, where exuberant reunions are enjoyed, and where the back-to-school excitement begins to bubble up! Three more weeks of summer before we all get to hang out together on the regular!

It’s National Book Lovers’ Day? Awww, they made a holiday just for us! Not to flex, but, Veritas is a place for book lovers. Here’s to getting lost in a truly great book - and finding truth within it to challenge and inspire you - today, the rest of this summer, and of course, all through the school year!

Summertime is full of family journeys, but so is school at Veritas! And it all begins with kindergarten - though they are small journeys for small learners, they experience such big leaps of growth - academically, socially, and spiritually - through their year! (There’s still room for you to join the journey in this year’s kindergarten class!)

Here are last year’s kindergarteners taking a stagecoach ride through 18th century Lancaster County (just open your imagination a little), trotting along to the local inn, bank, tavern and more as part of their history learning.

Veritas begins with Lancaster County history in kindergarten, Pennsylvania history in first grade, and then a chronological progression from creation, through Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, through the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and into the modern western civilization in 2nd - 6th grade. It’s a journey that is memorable, beautiful, and informs the rest of their studies through high school and into life, shedding light on all of civilization and culture and recognizing God’s sovereign hand through it all.

We’ve just surpassed the halfway point of summer, and we hope you’ve been enjoying some great adventures with your families that leave you thankful for God’s blessings this season! Maybe some camping trips were involved? Like, for example, our second graders last year who celebrated the Festival of Shelters (or, Sukkot) and had a little campout at school after studying the Exodus of the Israelites and their journey into the promised land. Just as the Jewish people traditionally find ways to celebrate God’s faithfulness and express gratitude during this annual holiday, our students wrote what they’re thankful for on pomegranates (which they then raced to gather), and counted God’s blessings on paper chains that they used to decorate their “shelters.”

May each of your families take time to enjoy God’s blessings this season and tell him and one another how he’s made you thankful, and in so doing, make the most of the second half of summer and all the adventures it has yet to bring. “Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God…” - Psalm 50:14

Class of 2026 Spotlight: Greta Wenger

Future Plans: Grove City College, studying elementary and special education

“I have been at Veritas all the way from the very start in Kindergarten with Mrs. Lake, and I cannot believe I’ve reached the day when I’ve finally completed my years here.

“In my time at Veritas, I have been involved in theater, volleyball, a brief stint in cross country, and all manner of music. Outside school, my great loves are reading, baking, and any sort of crafty endeavor.

“I’m deeply grateful to my parents for loving me and raising me to seek Christ in all that I do, and of course to God for all the incredible opportunities He has given me over the years. But most of all I’m thankful for the people I have been surrounded with – so many wise teachers guiding me as I grew up, and so many close friendships formed in discussions, shared laughter, and inside jokes. I wish you all the best, and many thanks for all you’ve taught me!

“Next year I plan to attend Grove City College for elementary and special education, and I can’t wait to see where the Lord will take me. It has been a wonderful 13 years full of laughter and love and learning, and I’m so grateful to be leaving with valuable lessons, meaningful friendships, and a treasure trove of memories.”

Class of 2026 Spotlight: Blythe Spead

Future Plans: Grove City College, Mechanical Engineering

I have been at Veritas Academy since 3rd grade, and I will never be more thankful for any decision that my parents have ever made. Since then, Veritas has been a whirl of good books, learning, and goofy traditions and I have loved every second of it.

Music has been a large part of my time here. I joined orchestra in 3rd grade, and I have so many great memories of orchestra field trips and performances. I was blessed to go to PMEA districts three times and regions twice. I am so grateful to Mrs. Petry for the love and care she pours into our orchestra program; she truly made music wonderful for me. I’ve also been involved in choir since 3rd grade and ACE for three years. I performed in PMEA district chorus for one year and was part of the ACCS Honors Choir. Thank you to Ms. Stauffer for the wonderful ways she has built up the music program at Veritas.

St. Francis is such a fun homeroom to be in, and I was blessed with the challenge of leadership for three years. I have been a peer tutor for two years and a Veritas ambassador for one year. These have pushed me in my relational and leadership skills in such wonderful ways.

To my class: Thank you for being such a fun-loving, close-knit group. I have loved every inside joke, quote taken out of context, and ways that we make our teachers slowly lose their minds during class. It’s so amazing that one minute we can be losing our minds over something stupid, and the next discussing hard philosophical topics. I will miss you all.

To my teachers: Thank you for pushing me and teaching me responsibility. Thank you for passing on your wisdom and insights on faith. Thank you for being honest, laughing with us, but also getting us to lock in and buckle down to learn the hard stuff. Thank you especially to Mrs. Forbes for modeling so well what a hard working virtuous woman of God looks like, and calling us out on our shenanigans.

Thank you to my parents for supporting me every step of the way, for driving me to my endless activities, and for pushing me to become more and more like Christ in my words and actions.

Class of 2026 Spotlight: Bronwyn Smith

Future Plans: Charleston Southern University, majoring in business management

“I have attended Veritas since kindergarten. Some of my favorite memories from Grammar school are all the light saber fights we would get into, and the many make-believe games we would all play. Favorite memories from every year include all the fun field trips we went on. My favorite classes throughout all of my upper school years have been every Omnibus class.
“Veritas has truly prepared me for my future in college and more importantly for my life outside of school as well. My schooling here has helped me form and solidify my beliefs and taught me how to articulate and stand up for what I believe.

“I would like to thank all the teachers who have put so much effort and love into helping their students learn. Specifically, Mrs. Forbes for making math fun, Mr. Dennis for his many stories and deep conversations, Mr. Miller for his joy for teaching, and Mr. Myrick for always wanting his students to succeed. I also want to thank God, for all things come from him. Lastly, thank you to my parents for always believing in me and helping me to do my best.

“I participated in many activities during my time at Veritas. The most important to me was my time on the volleyball team since 5th grade. It was such a wonderful sport to play, taught me the value of teamwork, and opened so many doors for me. I also enjoyed playing basketball from 5th grade and throughout middle school. I still have the playbook from Mr. Fischer who was my first basketball coach!

“This year I was given the honor of being Chesterton House’s President. It was a great year, and I had a lot of fun leading our homeroom. I was also selected into two service honoraries during my Junior and Senior years: The Society of Gabriel the Archangel, which is the Veritas Ambassador Program, and The Society of St. Augustine, where I served students in Mrs. Strawbridge’s first grade class and in Miss Lake’s first grade class.”
