🌿 Why Risky Play Matters 🌿
Childhood is meant to include climbing, balancing, jumping, exploring, and occasionally wondering, “Can I do this?”
Risky play gives children the opportunity to test their abilities in an environment where caring adults are nearby without immediately stepping in. As they navigate challenges, they learn to assess risk, solve problems, trust their bodies, build confidence, and recognize their own limits.
There is an important difference between a risk and a hazard. A risk is something a child can see and learn to navigate; a hazard is a danger they may not be able to recognize. Our role is to remove hazards while giving children appropriate opportunities to experience manageable risks.
When we give children the space to try, struggle, adjust, and try again, we’re not just building stronger bodies—we’re nurturing capable, resilient, confident little humans. 🌱💛
