Sometimes new little ones need some help transitioning and one of a midwife’s most essential skills is recognizing the babies that do and how much they need. This is why finding an NRP course for midwives that is tailored to out-of-hospital birth is so crucial to providing family-centered emergency care.

This is a wonderful image of a now-vigorous baby after receiving some stimulation, suction, and breaths from the birth team. All of this family-centered resuscitation care was provided with the cord attached and baby remained with parents throughout.

One of our January babies needed a little breathing support right after birth, so after stimulation and suction we brought our resuscitation tray to the parents’ lap and provided breaths to the baby with the cord attached.

This little one didn’t need much help figuring out it was time to breathe, and we’re grateful to doula .weinstein for capturing this awesome photo of family centered resuscitation care.

I’m Ashley, I live in Lenoir and serve the surrounding areas in the foothills as a Birth Worker + Doulatog. I’m a trauma informed full spectrum Doula and Childbirth Educator, supporting births from home to hospital (or birth center), as well as other reproductive health journeys. I’ve been in this work for about five years now. I am honored to be able to support my community and the individual needs of my clients. Some things about me are: I have 2 kiddos of my own, 3 dogs, and 1 cat. I love the sunshine, summertime, my plant babies, taking pictures, and just about any body of water.
