Dudley Shoals Elementary School teacher Julie Overby spent part of her summer gaining hands-on experience in the energy industry! Mrs. Overby was one of a small number of teachers from across North Carolina selected for the 2026–27 cohort of the prestigious Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership.

Funded by the NC Department of Environmental Quality State Energy Office, the program connected real classroom teachers to the energy industry so that they could lead teachers as they develop career exploration opportunities for students. Mrs. Overby spent three weeks completing industry-focused learning and professional development to build hands-on STEM lessons and career pathway resources for our students.

Congratulations, Mrs. Overby! We're proud to have you on our team.

Beginning Teachers spent the week completing orientation and professional development sessions. They worked with our incredible teacher mentor team, veteran educators from across the District, and Caldwell County Schools leadership as they prepared to inspire, encourage, and lead in our classrooms this school year. Gamewell Elementary School has a new Assistant Principal: Zabrina Pitts.

Mrs. Pitts, a North Carolina Principal Fellow, comes to Caldwell County Schools after serving as an Assistant Principal in a neighboring school district. Before that, she spent years as a teacher leader, mentoring newer colleagues and leading science curriculum training across the district.

Mrs. Pitts has built a career around knowing her students well, using data to guide decisions, and keeping families and the community connected to what's happening at school.

Caldwell County Schools administration and the Caldwell County Board of Education look forward to having Zabrina Pitts join the leadership team at Gamewell Elementary School. Zabrina Pitts' appointment to Gamewell Elementary School was announced on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Brittany Coffey, the newly appointed Assistant Principal of Gamewell Middle School, is excited to bring her experience and dedication to the Braves family.

Mrs. Coffey is no stranger to Caldwell County Schools, having served the district for more than 14 years. She began as a Wraparound Assistant and Wraparound Director before moving into the classroom, where she has taught in Caldwell County Schools since 2018. Along the way, she's taken on leadership roles — work that earned her recognition early in her career as a Caldwell County Schools Rookie Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Coffey is passionate about strong collaboration among staff, students, and families, and believes that when educators are supported, students are empowered to do their best work.
