Leaf Explorers at Southlake! 🍂

Tuesday’s sunshine was too good to stay inside, so our Red and Yellow Rooms took a nature walk around the ponds at Southlake, collecting leaves along the way!

This week we’re learning all about leaves, and our little scientists are already talking like botanists. We’ve been exploring:

🍁 A leaf’s job: Leaves are the tree’s kitchen, making food for the whole tree
🍂 Leaf shapes: Round, pointy, lobed, and everything in between
🎨 Fall colors: Why green leaves turn red, orange, and yellow
🔬 Big vocabulary words: chlorophyll and photosynthesis, and yes, they can say them!

Our friends sorted, compared, and examined their treasures, and of course raced across the grass to see which leaf crunched the loudest.

At Building Blocks, classrooms don’t need walls. 🌳

Some exciting changes are happening at Building Blocks! 🧡

Our Red and Yellow classes are our Pre-Kinder rooms (ages 4-5), and our "Orange Team" has made a few shifts to support them. We’re so excited to see how the team's creativity and collaboration will continue to shape minds and build kinder readiness in our "Orange Room" students! 🍊

As our team grows and changes, our core values stay the same. We’re committed to a space where every child is seen and known, feels safe, and learns and grows alongside adults who care about the whole child. 💛

Professional Development Day at Building Blocks! 💙

This Monday our amazing teaching team came together for our semester Professional Development day, and what a day it was!

We focused on two things that matter most in early childhood education: Leadership in Early Childhood Education and Health & Safety. From strengthening how we lead in the classroom to sharpening the practices that keep our littlest learners safe and healthy, our teachers dove in, shared ideas, and learned from each other.

Every time we do a training, we're impressed and humbled by this group. They care deeply about the children in their classrooms, and they're always looking for ways to grow. That commitment is what makes Building Blocks special. 🧱

Thank you, teachers, for everything you do for our kids and families every single day!

Apple Week Continues at Building Blocks! 🍎

Our preschoolers wrapped up the week with two more hands-on favorites:

🌳 Fingerprint apple trees: fine motor control and color recognition
🍏 Apple taste test: comparing red, yellow, and green apples, then voting on a favorite for early graphing and data skills
✏️ Writing their names and coloring each apple: pre-writing and early literacy

Tasting, comparing, and picking a favorite builds vocabulary and confident opinions too. And honestly, it's just fun. 😄

Welcome Back to the Blue Room, Ms. Anna! 💙

You know the rhyme: something old, something new, something borrowed, something Blue. This Monday, our Blue Room has all four!

💙 Something Old: A familiar face! Ms. Anna has been a Blue Room lead and even our Director. She's not new to Building Blocks, she's family.

💙 Something New: A fresh chapter, new energy, and new ideas as she steps back into the classroom.

💙 Something Borrowed: The school district borrowed her for a while (where her boys go to school), but we're so happy to have her back!

💙 Something Blue: The Blue Room, of course, and Ms. Anna fits right in!

🎉 Parents Night Out was a hit! 🎉

Last night, our Building Blocks kiddos (and siblings) had a blast while their parents enjoyed a well-deserved evening off!

Here's what we got up to:
🍕 Pizza dinner with carrots and applesauce pouches
🍂 Fall tree crafts with tissue paper leaves
🧱 Big group Lego building
🛝 Playground fun as the sun went down

💚 Our Green Room friends are learning all about pets this week! 🐢🐶🐰

After reading The Perfect Pet by Margie Palatini, the kids grabbed their watercolors and brought Doug the beetle to life. Lots of focus, lots of color, and a few very serious little artists at work.

Story time + art time = the perfect combo. 🎨

🥦 Building a colorful plate in the Yellow Room! 🧀🍓

Our Yellow Room friends have been learning all about food groups this week. First they sorted picture cards into fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, dairy, and sweets — lots of great conversations about which foods help our bodies grow strong! ✂️

Then they put those scissor skills to work, snipping up green "veggies" to fill their very own colorful plates. Cutting, sorting, and talking about healthy choices all in one lesson — that's learning through play!

Ask your Yellow Room kiddo what goes in the protein group tonight at dinner. 😉
