STARBASE Kansas City To improve student comprehension in math, engineering, science and technology. Kansas STARBASE is the U.S.

Department of Defense’s award winning science, technology, engineering and math youth program. The program is located in five Kansas cities: Wichita, Topeka, Salina, Kansas City and Manhattan. It has worked with over 52,000 Kansas’ children either directly or indirectly by improving their interest in the areas of math, engineering, science or technology as well as instilling a sense of pride and personal accomplishment. It is those traits by which STARBASE will increase the number of students going into math, engineering, science and technology areas once they have completed their secondary education.

It was a great Day 3 with Stony Point North! Students designed a gyrosphere using computed aided design, explored chemistry further by learning about endothermic and exothermic reactions, and built solid fuel rockets and launched them. The highlight of the day was a visit by CPT Bailey, who encouraged them to not be afraid to try new things, whether sports, careers, or talents— and to find their personal “why”.

It was Day 2 for Oak Grove Elementary and Stony Point North kiddos. Students learned about how CAD is used in a variety of settings, practiced using angles and programming Spheros in Putt Putt, discovered the chemistry ⚛️ behind chromatography, and learned the importance of measuring in science. It was a great start to our week at STARBASE KC!

STARBASE KC welcomed Stony Point North as our first school for the FY27 school year. Pictured are students engaging in chemistry careers using Happy Atoms and using engineering skills to save Sir Eggbert as he lands within the castle’s walls. Not pictured was the exploration of Physics careers making predictions using Newton’s laws with straw rockets and learning design using Corel Draw and the laser engraver. Truly a fun day for all!
