This one is special for me! This student studied with 2 of my guitar mentors 30 years ago!!! And now studies with me. It’s truly an honor to be able to continue the music lineage across generations of classical guitar study for this awesome student Rick!

Chord Melody- When you play the melody while simultaneously holding the harmony.

This is just one example of chord melody from the song Smile by Charlie Chaplin.

Chord Melody comes on various iterations. From Jazz chord melody which is much more improv based and tends to bend the melody and harmony then their is classical chord melody which stays true to the melody and harmony. This is an example of classical chord melody.

This is one of my favorite styles to play because it’s one of the few styles that can be played by yourself.

Who I am, my mission, and my methods!

Music means the world to me alongside family. It enriches my life and its ability to reach others is unlike anything else. We make friends, build relationships, strengthen bonds, bring healing, laughter, and so much more.

Self expression is the ultimate super power. Being true to you! If this resonates with you let’s jam!

Lesson available in person, online, and recorded.

Not sure yet? Be on the lookout for my master class this fall, more detail to come.

I always tell my students it is so important to get out and jam with friends. Places like open mics, open jams, drums circles etc. are great opportunities to make friends and play.

Thanks to local open mics like Moon Peak Productions at The Abbey Bar they host events for all ages to join.

This is something I wish I had at that age! Please don’t be afraid to sounds bad! Go jam have fun🎸

Tárrega- Lagrima
A standard in classical repertoire the music of classical guitar is quite different than what most view as “classical standards.”

Composers like Tárrega, Carulli, Giuliani and more captured the essence of guitar as opposed to copying what other instruments did, which was mimic the piano.

These composers paved the way for what was to come for the guitar. Even through the years of the instrument being pushed off as a “toy, beginner instrument, etc”

I even had my fair share of that at Messiah University nearly 300 years later. Yet the guitar stands as one of the greatest selling instruments of all time amassing an extremely large collection of repertoire across every genre of music.

Moral of the story, NEVER GIVE UP!
